Crab season finally begins
By Joel Gallob Of the News-Times

After delays due to poor weather, a price dispute with the seafood processors, and low 'pick out' levels of meat in sample crabs taken in November, the Oregon coast crab season finally got started last weekend, Jan. 6-7.

The season was scheduled to begin Dec. 1, but was delayed by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife to Dec. 31 due to poor meat quality.

Crabbers and their buyers reached an accord on price late last Friday - winning the $1.35 per pound for which they had held out - and that night and Saturday morning members of the Newport Crab Marketing Association and similar groups up and down the coast went crabbing."
