Christmas Divorce

A man in Phoenix calls his son in New York the day before Christmas
and says "I hate to ruin your day, but I have to tell you that your
mother and I are divorcing; forty-five years of misery is enough".

"Pop, what are you talking about?" the son screams.

"We can't stand the sight of each other any longer," the father says.
"We're sick of each other, and I'm sick of talking about this, so you
call your sister in Chicago and tell her."

Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone.

"Like heck they're getting divorced," she shouts, "I'll take care of
this," She calls Phoenix immediately, and screams at her father,

"You are NOT getting divorced. Don't do a single thing until I get
there.
I'm calling my brother back, and we'll both be there tomorrow. Until
then, don't do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?" and hangs up.

The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife. "Okay,"
he says, "they're coming for Christmas and paying their own way."

DID YOU KNOW?

Egg sized gravel is being laid on the forest road to the cell phone tower atop Iron Mountain? That is the road behind LVH. Why you say? At he gate of the forest road is a permit for electrical work on a sign board. Ummm? Well as Bill and I went to the forest to find greenery for the upcoming class of wreath making at the clubhouse we found a traffic person at the top of the hill who was directing the trucks where to lay down the gravel.

He said they are strengthing the road because they are going to be hauling a new addition up there that weighs 65,000lbs... What do you think weight like that will do to our entry streets?
Are you in the know?

Tell us about Charles and others in the park so we can get the info out to everyone...
Here is our email address.

LVH CERT NEWS:
pictures by Ed Simon

This has been a hallmark week for the LVH CERT team. On Wednesday Greg Pfalmer brought his motorhome to the clubhouse where the entire team participated in a hands on training session. We are confident that every team member can hook up and start the generator and knows all of the safety features and where the circuit breakers and GFI reset buttons are. The unit is capable of 6500watts or 65 amps. This was explained and how not to overload the generator.

We have one more person in the park offering the use of a portable generator and we will be getting with him soon to learn the "how to" on that unit. Meanwhile Greg has made his unit available whenever it is in the park.

Greg Pfalmer's motorhome with the generator enclosure open.

The LVH CERT Team inspects the generator control s.

Generator control.

Greg educates the team on what to do to turn on the generator.

Greg says, "This is the Fuel Primer".

Here we see which control does which job.

Six minutes after the generator starts you have power on this outside outlet unless the GFI is tripped inside next to the shower.

Here is the circuit breaker inside ..underneath the bed.

Surfing For Surgery, Online Comparison Shopping Is Helping Some Patients To Save On The Cost Of Medical Procedures - CBS News

Surfing For Surgery, Online Comparison Shopping Is Helping Some Patients To Save On The Cost Of Medical Procedures - CBS News: "Like millions of Americans, Gary Garcia is shopping online, CBS News correspondent Wyatt Andrews reports. But he's not on eBay or Amazon.com. Garcia needs a new heart valve, and he's shopping for surgery.

Using a Web site called Health Grades.com, Garcia learns which nearby hospital is the best at heart surgery — and then, to his amazement, he gets an estimated breakdown of the costs. He gets the list price for his operation, the discounted price his insurance will pay and his estimated co-payment. "

Speaking on Scan USA

Yesterday we were at the clubhouse to register those that would like to have a tsunami warning and many others sent to their cell phones or email by the innovative warning system introduced by AT&T in partnership with government and law enforcement agencies. We had only one.

Those of us who watched the chaos that is still New Orleans and South East Asia tsunami are determined not to let it happen here by preparing our communities. What we ask of you is so minor.

The warning comes to you immeadiately after it is issued.

Please consider getting this free service it could save your life. We found the registering process to be a bit difficult for those not skilled in computer gobbley-gook. So here is what we can do for you if you would like the service.

  • 1st, you only need a cell phone or an internet email address to register.
  • Secondly, give us your internet email address and or cell phone # and the cell phone provider eg., Verizon.
  • That's it we will have you registered in a jiffy.
  • Or go to ScanUSA on the internet and register yourself CLICK HERE.
  • If we do it for you email the information to ..CLICK HERE

A Serious Use For Silly String, One Of Many Innovations By U.S. Troops In Iraq - CBS News

A Serious Use For Silly String, One Of Many Innovations By U.S. Troops In Iraq - CBS News: "In an age of multimillion-dollar high-tech weapons systems, sometimes it's the simplest ideas that can save lives. That's why a New Jersey mother is organizing a drive to send cans of Silly String to Iraq.

American troops use the stuff to detect trip wires around bombs, as Marcelle Shriver learned from her son, a soldier in Iraq.

Before entering a building, troops squirt the plastic goo, which can shoot strands about 10 to 12 feet, across the room. If it falls to the ground, no trip wires. If it hangs in the air, they know they have a problem. The wires are otherwise nearly invisible. "

Newport the Center of Whale Watch Tourism on Oregon Coast: "Newport, Oregon) – You could say, “Seein’ is Baleen in Newport” these days.

It’s no fluke that Oregon State Parks schedules its annual Winter Whale Watch for the week after Christmas. This year it’s set for Dec. 26, 2006, to Jan. 1, 2007 - a week when both gray whales and the people who love them are on the move. For these seven days, volunteers will be stationed at overlooks and parks all over the central coast, helping both children and adults learn about gray whales and how to spot them in the ocean."

The discovery of carvings on a snake-shaped rock along with 70,000-year-old spearheads nearby has dramatically pushed back the earliest evidence for ritual behavior, or what could be called religion. The finding, which researchers have yet to formally publish, comes from a cave hidden in the Tsodilo Hills of Botswana, a mecca of sorts for the local people, who call it the Mountain of the Gods."

Bill Bradbury - A Better Way to Vote - washingtonpost.com: "A Better Way to Vote

By Bill Bradbury
Sunday, November 19, 2006; Page B07

SALEM, Ore. -- This month, as controversies emerged in other parts of the country over polling place problems and malfunctioning touch-screen machines, we here in Oregon prepared to swear in a new crop of elected officials with nary a question about the legitimacy of the count or the functioning of our electoral process. We accomplished this with a turnout on Nov. 7 that was, once again, among the highest in the nation. How? With Vote by Mail.

One episode that highlights its success occurred in Tillamook County, where 13 inches of rain on Election Day sent many citizens scrambling to the safety of shelters under a declared state of emergency. Despite the fact that many roads were impassable and parts of the county were inaccessible -- conditions that would have crippled turnout in a state that relied on conventional polling places -- 70 percent of the voters cast ballots. Only voting by mail could have led to this outcome.

Voting by mail was launched statewide through a people's initiative in 1998, which passed by a 70 to 30 percent margin. Every registered voter receives a paper ballot in the weeks before Election Day. The ballot can be either mailed back or dropped off at one of a number of secure sites statewide.

The system has proven to be fraud-free. Oregon is one of only two states in the nation to verify every single voter signature against the signature on that voter's registration card. Our process is transparent and open to observation. "
