Social Club Projects ...

Nearly everyone these days is thinking up projects that they would like the Social club to buy. Some groups have very few people want bucks to support there desires. Another might want to add new equipment to the clubhouse for the greater enjoyment of the residents. Still others want money for entertainment events. There are a lot of suggestions about what can be done by the Social Club funds. Still there are very few that attend monthly meetings to supply guidance.

For those who are new to LVH you should know that each resident that owns a home here is automatically a member of the Social Club. Each member is entitled to vote and put forward motions for discussion and vote at meetings.

Social Club funds accrue from fund raisers, breakfasts, CD interest and advertisements in the newsletter, even house painting for members by members. How they are disbursed is by establishment of an annual budget and by vote of a majority of members at meetings. Thus if you do not participate the funds may be spent in areas you may or may not like. It is the members present at meetings that determines the course the club takes and it is the board of the Social Club that determines how the business of the club is conducted.

Now you all know that? Don't you?

I've heard about projects of value that folks want.. I'm going to list them and for some I will put the estimated cost and who benefits. Now you help too. In the comments you put what you would like to see the social club try to get as a project. When we have a ll the goodies listed we will conduct a poll to see which ones are the most important for everyone. Then maybe we can proceed to work toward the goal that the most people feel would be of most benefit. It's always good to have a goal in sight to work for don't you think? Here is the list as I have heard it from here and there (in no particular order) :
  1. NEW chairs for the clubhouse main hall ($50 apiece) 24 chairs X $50=$2200
  2. Pool Tables recover $800 ( only the pool club uses them)
  3. Pinball Machine... No idea
  4. Putting Green.... No idea
  5. Horse Shoe Pits ... No idea
  6. Wide Screen TV.... $1200
  7. New couches and chairs... no idea.
  8. New popcorn machine no idea.
  9. Computer desks for the clubhouse... no idea.
What are your ideas?

Flamingo Kidnapping!!!

Flamingos !!!!

Editor.. Note at the bottom of this story who posted it..... Ginger Dale Ginger is now writing and other stuff for the website...

Dear Neighbors and Friends,
As you probably know by now "Flame" the 54th Street Flamingo disappeared in December while dressed up in her "Santa " outfit. We were gone for about a week right after the big windstorm in December and when we returned she was missing. At first we all hoped it was a prank, and she would return, but she failed to return home after many weeks. We believe she took wing in that great storm and is now residing elsewhere.
In the meantime a Longview Hills neighbor was kind enough to relocate a flamingo family to our doorstep. The new family is now grazing where Flame, and later her guitar playing friend, Match, used to be. Many of the homemade outfits and accessories have been donated by the flamingo lovers who live up the hill over the years. Letters and cards have come from friends, neighbors and even the mailman.
We are glad so many of you take a moment to smile when you check on the flamingo family as you drive by our house. The world and our lives have so many serious things to think about and consider. It is nice to share some humor and smiles each day with all of you. Our neighbor across the street, Brent, has a sign in his yard that says it all- "Amor Vincitt Omnia" or.... "Love Conquers All".
Keep smiling,
Kathy and Chaz

Cuddly Baby Seals Cause a Raucous on Oregon Coast

Cuddly Baby Seals Cause a Raucous on Oregon Coast: "(Seaside, Oregon) – Just a couple days after a somewhat rare elephant seal find on Oregon’s north coast, two newborn seals caused a stir and further illustrated the necessity for humans to leave them alone. Both were apparently newborn seals with their umbilical chords still attached, and both were handled by humans – when they should not have been."

Deceased Oregon Coast Seal Quite a Specimen, Say Experts: "Cannon Beach, Oregon) – An elephant seal corpse that washed up on the north Oregon coast was an unusual find, clocking in as the largest such creature in this area in nearly 15 years.

World’s first tree reconstructed - LiveScience - MSNBC.com

World’s first tree reconstructed - LiveScience - MSNBC.com: "Earth's oldest known tree stood nearly 30 feet tall and looked like a modern palm, a new reconstruction shows.

Workers uncovered hundreds of upright stumps of the 385 million-year-old tree more than a century ago, after a flash flood in Gilboa, New York uncovered them, but little else was known about the tree’s appearance.

Then, in 2004, scientists unearthed a 400-pound fossilized top — or crown — of the same genus a few miles away. The following summer, the same team discovered fragments of a 28-foot trunk. Piecing together stump, trunk and crown now reveals what the full tree looked like for the

first time."

Results of the latest poll. If you look at each of the questions carefully we think you might see that any of them could be done now. We were trying to show you the flexibility the community gains with the new Neighborhood Watch Radio Network. You can probably see many more uses and as Block Captains and Coordinators your challenge will be to develop and improve this system to get as much from it as you can.

The CERT team will continue to monitor the system to be of service to the community but the network belongs to the Neighborhood Watch Team. All of the coordinators for Neighborhood Watch have been CERT team members but the two duties conflict with one another. CERT will continue to be closely allied with Neighborhood Watch but the team needs to be continuously focused on CERT and so new Neighborhood Watch Coordinators are being recruited.

Currently CERT has divided the park into 3 sub areas. Each of those area have a coordinator for Neighborhood Watch. Area 3 from Windmill south is now covered by Jackie Memoli and Ruthanne Carson. Area 2 from the clubhouse north to the lake is covered by Rod McCready who is CERT and his Neighborhood Watch Coordinator duties conflict with CERT duties.. so look for a change there soon. Marlene Crites is serving as Neighborhood Watch Coordinator north of the lake but like Rod McCready her CERT duties are in conflict with Neighborhood Watch so look for a change there soon also.

With the addition of the radio network and streamlined job discriptions, new notification proceedures and overall Neighborhood Watch structure revamping. CERT's job redefining Neighborhood Watch is coming to a close. The community must now take over this vital function. It is so easy now and takes almost no time at all. CERT remains ready to assist Neighborhood Watch and vice versa.. We are now partners but with different missions.

The Register-Guard, Eugene, Oregon, USA

EDITOR: Submitted by Wayne Hill LVH CERT Team

The Register-Guard, Eugene, Oregon, USA: "The quake that lowered the shore and launched the tsunami struck Oregon at 9 p.m. on Jan. 26, 1700.

As you take your romantic stroll along Salishan's beach, picture the effect such an earthquake would have today. Measuring about nine on the Richter scale, the initial shock would be roughly 10 times more powerful than the 1906 earthquake that destroyed San Francisco.

At Lincoln City, the ground would suddenly drop about 10 feet, cracking streets and buildings. Surprisingly, the ocean would not surge forward at once. In fact, the waters might even retreat for several minutes, exposing first the tidepools at Fishing Rock, and then the mudflats beyond. By that time, sirens already would be wailing in Lincoln City, warning residents to move to higher ground.

Lincoln City is one of the coastal towns that has held tsunami evacuation drills."
Two of my favorite people joined the Neighborhood Watch Radio Network today.... Milt Sadusky and Cleda Hampton.. They both brought their brand new radios to the clubhouse and the CERT tem taught them how to use them... Think about it.. 2 more sets of eyes and ears to watch the park. It is getting safer and safer to be a resident here.

We want you to know that the CERT team will help anyone set up their new radio and one of us will probably be at the clubhouse every Wednesday between 12:00pm and 1:00pm to help you and answer questions. If you come to the CERT breakfast next week bring your radio and your questions. We will break someone loose to give you a hand.

Once we have helped you and you forget... We will keep helping you until you have it down pat... Join the Network today.
