WASHINGTON, July 1-A bee only weighs a fraction of an ounce, but it can spoil your whole holiday weekend.

While it would take about 300 insects to weigh an ounce, the cocktail of proteins that a bee's stinger can inject is often enough to cause symptoms ranging from hives to fatal shock in people allergic to the venom."

Humor...
via email

A man walking along a California beach was deep in prayer. Suddenly,

the sky clouded above his head and, in a booming voice, the Lord said,

"Because you have TRIED to be faithful to me in all ways, I will grant

you one wish."

The man said, "Build a bridge to Hawaii so I can drive over anytime
I want."
The Lord said, "Your request is very materialistic. Think of the
enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking. The supports
required to reach the bottom of the Pacific! The concrete and steel it
would take! It will nearly exhaust several natural resources. I can do
it, but it is hard for Me to justify your desire for worldly things.
Take a little more time and think of something that would honor and
glorify Me."
The man thought about it for a long time. Finally he said, "Lord, I
wish that I could understand my wife. I want to
know how she feels inside, what she's thinking when she gives me the
silent treatment, why she cries, what she means when she says
nothing's wrong, and how I can make a woman truly happy."
The Lord replied, "You want two lanes or four on that bridge?"

Zombie dog
Eerie ... boffins have brought dead dogs back to life, in the name of science.

SCIENTISTS have created eerie zombie dogs, reanimating the canines after several hours of clinical death in attempts to develop suspended animation for humans.
US scientists have succeeded in reviving the dogs after three hours of clinical death, paving the way for trials on humans within years.

Pittsburgh's Safar Centre for Resuscitation Research has developed a technique in which subject's veins are drained of blood and filled with an ice-cold salt solution.

The animals are considered scientifically dead, as they stop breathing and have no heartbeat or brain activity.

But three hours later, their blood is replaced and the zombie dogs are brought back to life with an electric shock.

Plans to test the technique on humans should be realised within a year, according to the Safar Centre."

If You Are a club member.. and you are if:
You are involved in :
  • Bingo
  • Pool
  • Cribbage
  • Computer Club
  • Fisherman's Club
  • Pinochle
  • Ladies Coffee
  • The Social Club
We have a new system we are trying out at the clubhouse. It involves all of us that socialize with these games and meetings. We have put up two suction cup hooks on the door going into the mailroom. On those hooks we are going to hang posters that show the above events the day before they happen so that we all can be reminded of what the next event is and when. All of the above regularily ocurring events have permanent posters made for them and are encased in plastic. They are made of heavy cardstock paper for longevity. The events are printed on both sides so we can see it when we are coming and going thru the door. Since these events all occur at the same times and days of the week they always will say, "Event Name.. this day.. and time."

We are asking that you put up your poster if you are in one of the above groups the day before your event and no sooner. For instance the Fishermen would put their poster up on theWednesday before their meeting on Thursday. The pool players have 2 days a week that they compete and there is a poster for Sunday and another for Wednesday for them.

The posters for each of the above listed social events are located in the plastic box on the bulletin board. Where the Newsletter Editor likes your articles for the Newsletter to be put... We're getting double duty out of it.

I know that until we get into the swing of things that the posters may not be put up and so for a time I will keep an eye on it and try to keep a smooth transition going.

Also, Larry Henson is not fond of using the door for postings but he hasn't complained recently so we are hoping to use the door for coming events and wonder if everyone might consider putting other announcements on the Bulletin Boards?

We hope that this will generate more participation in the Social Activities at LVH.

In the works for the Bulletin Board is the idea of swapping its location with the dry erase board so that it will be the first thing seen when entering the mailroom. If you have an opinion on that please give it to us in the comments.

This picture is a perfect example of why you don't want to go to the desert. These are 2 of the biggest I've ever seen. Normally we have been averaging 50 page loads a day.....

rt

I find myself wondering why? Why what you say? Well, as you know we have the comments link below each article for you to interact with each story or item ..to give your opinion.. your 2 cents as it were.

Some time ago Jim Dodds set up a statistical page that gleans all manner of statistics about how many times folks visit the page. What operating system they use to view the site. Where in the world they are located and many other tantalizing stats.

As you might expect I find myself looking at these and trying to analyze just what it is that gives an average day and what gives a superior day and why does interest recede below average at times? This type of feedback directs me in what to do next. Unfortunately, on a day like yesterday I get this huge spike of 94 page loads. I know it must be something that was written about in that day or maybe the previous day that got so much interest. When I look at the comments though I see nothing... Which article was it? ..Hmmm mystery time again.

If I could find the answer I would try to put more of what is interesting everyone on.... On the other hand maybe it was just that it rained yesterday and everyone was indoors with nothing to do?

Follow this link and you can see our statistics page and see what I mean...

Home Automation...

rt

If you have the flashing red light system in your home now... Then you have the very foundation of automating your home in place. To make your home perform for you all that needs to be done is for you to plug in devices from the same outfit that made what you allready have and you are on your way. Later you can buy a module that can be programed to do everything automatically... even when you are away from home. It is not hard to do all the technology has been reduced to easy to follow instructions.

Here are some of the things my home will do... the module that controls the whole house knows all about daylight savings time and the geographical zone where we live. I told it so on the computer program that came with it. So it faithfully turns on the mood lighting all over the house based on when the sun sets that day. Then it dims them to a soft and pleasing level. That includes rope lighting buried in the soffets of the curtain balistrades and up lighting that is located on the floor that shines through plant foilage to give pleasing shadows against the ceiling. And spot lighting to accentuate baskets and other home chatzkis. Outside this feature turns on the patio malibu lighting placed strategically to illuminate garden features and provide safe lighting for walking on the patio. This all happens simultaneously. The dining room, living room, den and masterbedroom, and hall. At midnight these lights all shut down and the hall light is turned back on but dimmed to the level of a night light and at sunrise for that day this light is turned off. At 7:00 pm the coffee pot is turned on and starts brewing coffee at 12 noon it is turned off.

As you walk through the house there are sensors that detect movement. For instance, we spend a lot of time in the den and walk back and forth between the kitchen via the hall and the bathroom. The hall is lit already but as you pass through the bathroom the light comes on and will turn off again if it sees no movement in 3 minutes. Continuing on to the service porch a sensor triggers the mood lighting above the kitchen cupboards and will go of it sees no movement 15 minutes later. Now the kitchen is lit by soft light and you can get to the refrigerator for that coke. But, should you venture further into the kitchen another sensor turns on the kitchen overhead lights and will turn them off after no movement is seen for 15 minutes.

Outside a sensor is placed so that movement detected in the driveway or walkway turns on porch and driveway lights and additional patio lighting. Inside the garage.. if one opens the door to go inside and it is dark the lights come on automaticaly and go of f after you leave.

These lights also can be turned off and on and dimmed to any level you desire with a hand held remote control that also will turn your TV and VCR on and off. This remote will turn on every controlled light in the house or turn them all off and will turn on everyone individually. We keep 3 remotes around the house but the one on the nightstand by the bed could be the most useful if you heard an unexpected noise.

Many of you have called an electrician to put in a switch that you can turn a light on and walk across the room and turn it off at another. This usually involves cutting holes in the ceiling and walls and is pretty pricey. With this one module you don't have to do that anymore! the new switch you put in goes on the wall with velcro and looks like any other switch but it will control the light and dim it as well.

Well, I am sure I forgot some features but the intent here was to show you what has been done but there are so many other things that can be done that you are only limited by your imagination.

Now, knowing that you have the basis for this system allready if you have the red light installed do you want to learn the how to? I am thinking of starting a Home Automation club. At meetings there would be no structure or leader. Folks would just talk about things they want to do and how to do them... much like the computer club works.

Would you be interested? Women can handle this as easily as men... it's a fun and rewarding hobby.
