Newport News-Times: Beach walk ends in tragedy for two women

Newport News-Times: Beach walk ends in tragedy for two women: "Beach walk ends in tragedy for two women
By Steve Card and Barton Grover Howe Of the News-Times

A beach outing turned tragic Tuesday afternoon when two women walking along the shore in Gleneden Beach were apparently swept out to sea by a large wave. The body of one of the women was discovered the next morning, while the other is still missing.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office received a missing persons report at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. A deputy responded to a vacation rental home on Glenn Avenue in Gleneden Beach, where he learned that Elma Benefiel, 78, of Beaverton and her daughter-in-law, Jan Benefiel, 61, of Idaho Falls, Idaho had gone for a walk in the area around 1 p.m. and had not returned. Family members had gone looking for the women, and when they couldn't find them, they tried calling Elma Benefiel's cell phone, but the call went right to voice mail. At that point, family members notified law enforcement."

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- About 11 million bottles of store-brand acetaminophen caplets are being recalled by the manufacturer over concerns some may contain small metal fragments.

Perrigo Co., one of the largest domestic makers of store-brand, over-the-counter drug and nutrition products, said it had found trace amounts of metal in a small number of 500 milligram caplets."

In an email from Donna Talarski she urges you to use caution. If you are about to pick a service maybe you would like input from her.

With all the rain we are having, people are bound to have water damage and possibly need emergency calls. I would like to report a company as less than desirable and if anyone in our park choose to use them -use with caution.

Days of downpours bring floods, slides

Days of downpours bring floods, slides: "Landslides threatened two oceanfront homes in Gleneden Beach, north of Newport. Lynn Nelson, owner of one of the homes, said the land began falling away in 10-foot chunks Saturday, so she and her husband began moving furniture and other belongings out. Her insurance company said it wouldn't cover the loss of the house, worth $1.5 million."
An email from Charles Burke....

Hi Ron...........Will I'm back on the hill again, for how long who knows. Frida my dear dear wife came and picked me up late this morning from the Newport hospital, was in there for several days. I'm not 100 per cent yet, but still trying to get better to be able to have the next surgery on my back within the next few months. If I don't do well here at home, then will have to go back to the Lincoln City Rehab city again, was there for ten days and came home just last week and then after a few days was put into the hospital here. I have PT started on the 13th here at the Newport Hospital to help get me stronger. I'm still having to use a walker to get around or a wheelchair, not able to drive at all. I will be so glad when this is all behind me and I can get involved once again with the goings on here on the hill, I have missed the hands on very much.
So Ron, I assumed Jackly is still down at Lori's and hope Lori is doing better, was able to get her cast off. Today was the first time I've been able to get online and check out the LVH's web site, a lot going on and I always enjoy reading the articles and in put from all. One day soon hope to be able to get back to writing on the web site.
Guess I'll sign off for now and hope your doing ok, oh by the way have one set of the patrol signs here at the house, in case you need them or we can hang on to them. Let me know, OK? Take care..........

Your friend Charles....................Umbrella emoticon

Just a reminder... You don't have to get out of your car if you want to turn in your ballot today...

You know the US Mail boxs that you can drive up to at the post office and put your letters in? They have the same kind of drop box now for ballots.

To get to the drop box go down to Olive and turn right at the signal (by JC Market). Then next to the court houes/jail.. Turn left at the stop sign. Turn left at the second driveway of the court house parking lot .. Drive to the end of the lot.. The ballot drop box is in front of you on the left.

Oregon Coast Puts on a Show with First Storm of Season

Oregon Coast Puts on a Show with First Storm of Season: "A high wind warning is currently in effect from the National Weather Service for the north Oregon coast, but it apparently started smacking the central coast on Friday and Thursday. Powerful winds and large waves are expected for the region this weekend, caused by an unusual weather phenomenon – a major hurricane-like storm - that’s parked off the coast about 900 miles."
