A Hubbub Over a Visit by the Dalai Lama? Not in New York - New York Times: "“I’m going to stick with the Dalai Lama’s position on this, which is that people want to do the right thing,” he said. But for various reasons, they are often “prevented from fulfilling their inner desire to do something decent for people.” “Different people have different ways of relating to that phenomenon,” he said. “Some try to educate themselves, and have some humility and try to learn from their mistakes. And others forge ahead, and interpret failure as success.”"

Is Alzheimer's a Form of Diabetes? - TIME
Is Alzheimer's a Form of Diabetes? - TIME: "When the body refuses to make insulin, the condition is called type 1 diabetes; when the body mismanages the hormone, it's known as type 2. Now, scientists report new evidence linking insulin to a disorder of the brain: when the brain prevents the hormone from acting properly, the ensuing chemical imbalance may help trigger Alzheimer's disease. The correlation is so strong that some researchers are calling Alzheimer's disease 'type 3' diabetes."

Community
Where we lived for 28 years, before moving to LVH, we had neighbors all on large lots from 3/4 to 5 acre lots. Boy! That was a lot of yard to take care of...Whoooeee! During that time we had mostly the same neighbors. I can say we knew very little about them and they us. We were involved in the community in all manner of volunteer activities and so had a wide range of friends and acquaintances through out our town. But the neighbors? Not much. There were large tracts of space between homes so what your neighbor did was not apparent very often.
Jacky was also a prominent business woman and her contacts ranged all over the United States and through out the community. Still, we both yearned for a kind of community where people sat out on the porch at night in swings and talked of all manner of things in the summer and visited one another in the winter. What would it be like this friendly neighborhood where everyone knew everyone and visiting was the norm.
When we moved here we felt we had found that community. Of course no place is perfect and you can't expect a dream to be a reality. But our home comes very close and our neighbors are from all walks of life... Something you wouldn't expect in an average neighborhood. We all are pretty much in the same boat here and share a common denominator of age. Still life experiences are so varied that it is an unusual day that someone doesn't come up with something you never thought about before.
One of the nice things about this community that we have noticed is the way we share information. There are so many ways for us to find out What's Happing in the HOOD that we all should be pretty much on the same page all the time. Still we seem to be missing something because folks are just not getting the information.. I think maybe it is simply that we have not selected the means of getting our information that works for us individually.

Here are some of the ways that information travels around the park....
- The old favorite the gossip telephone. Even though often inaccurate it is a source and requires at least one neighbor and you call one another once in awhile.. While you exchange tidbits maybe you could discuss what you read from a bulletin board poster at the clubhouse or on the internet looking at the community calendar or our website. Maybe even from signs posted on the clubhouse door. Shoot, even the monthly newsletter and its attending calendar.
- The Bulletin Board is changed regularly with posters advertising coming events and sign up sheets. Takes only a minute to scan for stuff you know nothing about.
- Our website has new stuff posted daily and at the top is the most upto date calendar which goes ahead for a whole year.
- Signs posted on the Clubhouse door usually are of major importance to the community and deal with the here and now. They deserve your attention.
- The monthly newsletter carries a calendar that can be posted on your refrigerator and articles often mention things of interest for the park....
- Neighborhood Watch Radio CH 6.16 will keep you apprised of much of what is happening to the park.. Just push the transmit button and say this is ____ what's going on today?
