MOVIN ON DOWN THE LI

MOVIN ON DOWN THE LINE.....

RT

Well we worked until 4:30 today and then drove back to the apartment. Tonight is our last night in these digs. Tomorrow the movers are coming for the big stuff between 1:00 and 3:00 and then we will make the last haul to Lori’s new home.

We have to be completely cleaned up and moved by Tuesday so we are on schedule. No tv or internet tomorrow night. This will be our last entry for a couple of days.

Lori’s new park has about 650 homes. It is called Adobe Wells. There are two clubhouses and a therapeutic pool and spa. Rent is high and appeals to renters who can afford nicer things. Although the park is open to families I have seen largely retired folks. Jacky and I are looking forward to seeing how their activity programs run so we can get some new ideas.

It is sure nice to see both of our children doing better than we did in their lives. It is a great feeling.

Lori’s new home has a water system to keep the plants watered even though the yard is much smaller than a typical LVH home. She can park two cars in her carport area but there are several guest parking spots right across from her. Today Jacky was unpacking the kitchen and discovered the cupboards all have pull-out drawers. (kewell).. When we get home will put some pictures on for you to see.

The home is 5 years old and is pretty up to date  with all the latest innovations. She has a small front porch and the pad for carport extends into a nice patio area. I have been installing extra storage cabinets from Home Depot and put in a large storage and egg crate cabinet for shoes in the walk in closet and double clothes rods.

The 3rd bedroom has become a storage area for now but Jacky thinks we can whip it into a guest room soon.  The second bedroom is being built up as an office for Lori so she can pursue outside business interests.. Writing for catalogues (she is the PR officer for the local college) and she has an uncanny ability to sell stuff on ebay. So this office space will help support her new home.

Tomorrow we move her cats... One of them is completely psychotic and hates everyone but her and the other is a sneaky twirp who wants to get out at every opportunity.. Great phun coming... Hope to continue the saga in a couple of days.. See you then.

A glimpse of the Kitchen Jacky was working on today... It has pull-out cupboards!

How many daze have we been moving....???

Moving goes on and on az we have written to some of our friends we are being crushed by a stuff tsunami.

One of the biggest challenges so far has been to out race the catz to the door when moving boxes out. Seems their owner has not explained to them that they are house kittys and not outdoor kitties. Never underestimate the cleverness of a kitty. One of the louts is sitting here snickering at what we are writing now.... No doubt he is really only interested in the mouse.

Jacky pulled a sneaky and went back to the bedroom and went to sleep while I was packing.... I told her we were burning daylight as Jim Rose likes to say... She told me... well, maybe I won’t put that here. Looking around the place I worry that it still looks like nothing is done.

Another two loads today I think..

Jacky is coming with me to the new house today where she will start un packing everything she has just packed. Aren’t humans funny? They do stuff and then turn around and undo the same stuff.

Both Jacky and I have decided that this will be our last move forever ... the kids will just have to do it themselves... I hate getting older but after this move all the symptoms are in evidence that it’s time to back off a bit.

Lori’s new home is a manufactured home with skirts. It is a double wide 3 bedroom of about a 1000 sq. ft. It doesn’t appear to be as wide as ours at LVH but it is a huge improvement over her one bedroom apartment

More Later.. We’re moving now.

Marie Jelen to celebrate 90th

Jacky Thomas

Today we spoke to Marilyn Kalar and Nancy Lee Moore about taking charge of a birthday celebration for Marie at the clubhouse. Marilyn and Nancy Lee will be planing and bringing the party to life. They should be able to announce a date and time at the catered breakfast.. Naturally, we will keep everyone updated here too. The Social Club is springing for the cake.

We think if you make 90 you have completed a special achievement that deserves a happy celebration ... Don't you?

Two Portland men indicted in home-repair scam: "Two Portland men indicted in home-repair scam
Investigation Police say a man and his uncle took money from frail people for bogus jobs

BOAZ HERZOG

Two Portland men have been indicted in connection with a home-repair scam that preyed on the elderly, police said Tuesday.

Troy A. Gallagher, 37, and his uncle, Gene M. Gallagher, 56, were indicted Oct. 17 by a Multnomah County grand jury on eight counts of first-degree theft and seven counts of second-degree theft.

Portland police, who began investigating in 2003, say the Gallaghers went door to door throughout the city convincing elderly and medically frail homeowners that they needed home repairs.

They handed out business cards with the name Handyman Yard Services, soliciting work ranging from yard tasks to plumbing repairs, said Sgt. Brian Schmautz, a Portland police spokesman."

After hurricane Katrina flooded the Gulf Coast, many U.S. hydrologists, architects, and city planners looked to 'the low countries' for water-wise guidance. Legalized Torture, Reloaded - New York Times: "Legalized Torture, Reloaded

Published: October 26, 2005

Amid all the natural and political disasters it faces, the White House is certainly tireless in its effort to legalize torture. This week, Vice President Dick Cheney proposed a novel solution for the moral and legal problems raised by the use of American soldiers to abuse prisoners and the practice of turning captives over to governments willing to act as proxies in doing the torturing. Mr. Cheney wants to make it legal for the Central Intelligence Agency to do this wet work.

Mr. Cheney's proposal was made in secret to Senator John McCain, the Arizona Republican who won the votes of 89 other senators this month to require the civilized treatment of prisoners at camps run by America's military and intelligence agencies. Mr. McCain's legislation, an amendment to the Defense Department budget bill, would ban the 'cruel, inhuman and degrading' treatment of prisoners. In other words, it would impose age-old standards of democracy and decency on the new prisons."

Day 4 a very Moving Experience..

Ron & Jacky,

Well we are moving Lori along to her new home. She has to go to work every day and we pack and move stuff from the old apartment to her new modular home. The apartment is in Redwood City, CA. and the new home is about 15 miles away in Sunnyvale. Sunnyvale is a suburb of San Jose. She is going from a 1 bedroom apartment to a 3 bedroom home... her first purchased home. Very exciting time for her.

The big stuff is going to be moved Friday by hired help... I'm to weak to move that stuff... and Jacky has that tricky back thing. Nevertheless, we have hauled many van loads so far and disassembled and reassembled lots of stuff. The rooms are stacked up with boxs at the new home so Jacky is going to go over there and unpack all that she packed over here for the last 4 days. Az usual I just do what she says has to be done.

I'm writing this at night even though Lori closed her internet service ...somebody in this complex or next door at Bed Bath and Beyond has a Wi-Fi connection with hi-speed internet so I am sharing that.

Sorry for not keeping up the website but it has been tough to do. Hope you birthday folks forgive us for being late with your greetings... We are liable to be a bit sporadic because of our internet connection which comes and goes.

Hi folks!

We are moving our daughter. She had her internet connection shut down. We are using a WI-Fi connection to the internet in this apartment complex that comes and goes. At this writing it is gone.

Jacky and aye r pretty much exhausted. Sorry we aren’t able to keep up with the web page during our moving experience. This is where it would be nice for some of you to step in with articles of interest about the park or whatever.  Just got the connection back so have to get this note up.
