I've seen the books on tape that some of you folks with vision problems get up at the clubhouse mail room.. This message is for you and others that would harken back to the days of radio.

Google reader is a free source of news and other stuff that can be listened to. A lot of it is from NPR. It would be terrific for those that have sight problems. If you know such a person please help them find this new site. Here is the link.. Go see what we mean.

Poll Requested by President Wayde Dudley.

New Poll from Samaritan Hospital. They have seminars they would like to give... Mark your choice.
brought back to the top for more comment

In a conversation with Wayne Hill....

At today's breakfast Wayne had an idea we chewed over while collecting the $$ from hungry residents. He said, "You know we should start a walking club." So we began to discuss what that would look like and how it might work... Here is what we came up with...

A whole bunch of us have been ordered to do exercise to get rid of the excess baggage we brought into retirement by our Dr.'s. It's no fun doing it by ourselves! If we had a walking club how would it work? There are those in good shape and those in lousy shape. You can envision this long strung out line between here and the lighthouse with various degrees of hobbling from those like me gasping for air at the back to the pack leaders striding away at the front. At this time Wayde Dudley dropped a few cents into the conversation..

Wayde has a passion for mapping as he was a mining surveyor in his preretirement life. Turns out he has all the routes around the park mapped with the exact mileage and would provide data for any route such a club would like to have.. (Oh did I mention Wayde and Barb are on the CERT team as volunteers now and waiting to take up coming training?) .

So, we mashed the subject around for a few minutes and came up with this idea. Suppose we meet on a certain day as the LVH walking club, at the clubhouse... All would have varying degrees of abilities. We even want the folks that have battery operated disability carts along... You can't walk but a ride with friends in the fresh air would be a good thing.

We start an easy route the first time but eventually the goal would be the lighthouse. We all walk at our own pace... Volunteer vans would follow the herd. As you reach your limit you whip out your FRS radio tuned to CH5 and call a van for pick up. When a van is full it returns the walkers to the clubhouse and comes back for another load until the walk is over. Disability vehicles would be looked after by a crew with a truck.

Go ahead... make your position known in the comments... What do ya think?

May 1, 2007 -- Oregon became our nation’s 33rd state on Feb 14, 1859. It covers 96,003 miles and the capital is Salem.

AMONG the first Europeans to explore the territory that would become Oregon was James Cook in 1778. Meriwether Lewis and William Clark explored the territory on their famous Lewis and Clark Expedition (1804-1806)."
