Calendar Hints...

As you look at the calendar you will sometimes see the words, "CLICK HERE" following an activity. You can click on that and a pop up window will appear and explain the event in greater detail. For instance, do you need to bring anything or what will be served, etc.

So as she pushed through the back door of her Southern Oregon home on a mid-July Monday, the 70-year-old retired nurse had no idea she was about to step on a rattlesnake.

The Computer Club....

RT

Well today we had 1 and a half people at the meeting. (the half Dick Garvey) Had to leave to celebrate his birthday.

I'm thinking that with the beautiful weather we have been having it is just hard to come to a meeting in the summer. So I am cancelling meetings until October as Fall sets in and we will give it a try again.

Meanwhile, Dick, Bev and Wayne we can meet at one another's home and use the notebooks and our networks to explore the net. If Anyone else wants to have a meeting at their home and you have Wi-Fi you can have the meeting as we can all explore the internet together simultaneously that way...

So untill October we are closing the computer club. See you then. Any of you want to take a date give me an email... RT

Evolving the calendar...

RT

Well as you can see the calendar has moved and you can now scan acrossed it without scroll bars. "She Who Must Be Obeyed" (Jacky) is pleased. Personally, I don't care for it... Since changing it to white so it could be printed for the monthly newsletter it just looks ugly to me. It takes up a bunch of room at the top of the page too... grumble, grumble.....

On the otherhand it does give a good, easy and clear view of the activities at LVH which makes it handy. Maybe you have to let it grow on you or sumpin. We'll leave it this way for awhile and see what folks think.

Don't forget you can click the top menu on the calendar to move ahead a week at a time.

Memo Central to Probe Of Leak Was Written By State Dept. Analyst

By Walter Pincus and Jim VandeHei
Washington Post Staff Writers
Thursday, July 21, 2005; A01

A classified State Department memorandum central to a federal leak investigation contained information about CIA officer Valerie Plame in a paragraph marked '(S)' for secret, a clear indication that any Bush administration official who read it should have been aware the information was classified, according to current and former government officials.

Plame -- who is referred to by her married name, Valerie Wilson, in the memo -- is mentioned in the second paragraph of the three-page document, which was written on June 10, 2003, by an analyst in the State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research (INR), according to a source who described the memo to The Washington Post."

The report says the military balance is tipping against Taiwan
China has increased the number of short-range ballistic missiles on its coast opposite Taiwan, the US has said.

In an annual report to Congress, the Pentagon claimed there were now up to 730 such missiles in place. Last year's report found only 500.

The Pentagon said China could now be spending up to $90bn a year on defence, and that its military build-up put regional balances at risk."

Yes there is a change....

rt

Jacky thought it would be useful to have the current weeks calendar show up on the top of the page in order to increase awareness of our park activities. This is my first effort at getting what she wants to see there.

I think this may be a good idea. I know if I ask for feedback (comments) about 4 maybe 5 of you will answer. It's always the same ones but if I could just tickle your ear a bit maybe you will give some constructive ideas?

You can toggle the calendar forward by selecting dates on the top row. If you need to look way ahead then you should use the calendar icon on the left side of the page. Notice that there are up and down and side to side scan controls.

Also, the calendar shows up every time there is a day change all the way down the posting frame.... I'm still thinking about that one but Jacky thinks that might be handy also.

When I visited Richard Paey here, it quickly became clear that he posed no menace to society in his new home, a high-security Florida state prison near Tampa, where he was serving a 25-year sentence. The fences, topped with razor wire, were more than enough to keep him from escaping because Mr. Paey relies on a wheelchair to get around."

It is getting hard to keep track of all the issues stirred up by the leaking of a C.I.A. operative's name to a conservative columnist two years ago. Our colleague Judith Miller has been in jail for nearly two weeks for refusing to identify her confidential sources to a grand jury investigating that leak. Her position - that reporters cannot do their jobs if they cannot guarantee some sources anonymity - is very clear, as is her willingness to accept the legal consequences of her principled stand. But the case itself is complicated, and it's been made more so by a raft of distracting issues."

DES MOINES (AP) — In the name of homeland security, motorists are going to see costs skyrocket for driver's licenses and motor vehicle offices forced to operate like local branches of the FBI, the nation's governors warn.

The new federal law squeezed this spring into an $82 billion spending bill had Republican and Democrat governors fuming at their summer meeting here, and vowing to bring their complaints to Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff at a Monday meeting."

Of all the participants in the strange Kabuki dance that passes for a Social Security debate, the one who might have had the best chance to do some actual good was Representative Bill Thomas, the Republican chairman of the Ways and Means Committee. Last May, Mr. Thomas held a hearing on ways to boost retirement savings, and some of the ideas put forth - such as matching funds rather than tax deductions for I.R.A.'s - could increase retirement security, if they were combined with prudent measures to ensure the solvency of Social Security. But now, under pressure from Republican leaders, Mr. Thomas is being drawn into the White House's single-minded drive for a privatization scheme the public doesn't want and the nation can't afford."

Human footprints discovered beside an ancient Mexican lake have been dated to 40,000 years ago. If the finding survives the controversy it is bound to stir up, it means that humans must have moved into the New World at least 30,000 years earlier than previously thought.

“If true, this would completely change our view of how and when the Americas were first colonised,” says Chris Stringer, head of human origins at the Natural History Museum in London, UK. But like several US experts, he is reserving judgement until the dates can be independently confirmed."

An email from Jim Rose....

Hello

Here we are still in Kentucky. We are beginning to consider selling our home in
Newport and buying a piece of heaven out here. Once you get past sweating in
the summer, and freezing in the winter its not too bad. Except for the fact
that just about everyone smokes out here including in all the restaurants too.
Guess this is the land of Philip Morris. I'm not sure that we will be alive
long enough to make it back home, if the heat don't get us then the second hand
smoke will. Need one of those pairs of red heeled shoes so that we can click our
heals and and say " THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME" and be whisked back home. But
that's not going to happen. Instead we will probably start smoking again in
self-defense.
As you can tell all is well out here, our daughter is still pregnant which is
good for her and the baby. She is in the hospital, if she continues to do well
they may release her Wednesday otherwise they will keep her till the baby
comes.
Again Bonnie asked that you show a little love to her Cactus. Got to go for now
will write again soon.
