What's Up With the Peeling of the Numbers?

We had our attention called to the latest item of irritation at the club house. Look at our gray pigeon hole mailboxs next time you get a chance. They are being vandalized by someone who is getting off on scratching off the numbers. Naturally, the tightened jaws of the recipients have led
to them inking in their numbers. What a mess. There is always something going on like this, huh?
Remember the birthday list thefts? How about all the resident rosters that disappear? I'm pretty sure we will never know what, why or who is behind all this? Still it is sad.

Just experimenting with geo-mapping... Should be a new fun hobby if we can figure it out. Meanwhile you can click once to enlarge and then again to enlarge a bit more. This is the map that the Block Captians and CERT are being asked to use.

There is a fault in this poll. I set it so a person could vote for more than one item and it also would let a person vote more than once. I'm hoping that that is what I am looking at when I look at this poll. On the other hand a choice that would have said , "None of these look good keep working on it." Might have helped a bit.

Well the CERT team has been working on a better notification scheme and has come up with an outline for a good notification system. Soon we will present it to you. I think you will like it. Even so, Donna Talarski came up with a phone dialer system that is cost prohibitive but the concept may exist in the world of freeware. So we are researching it.

I think the results of the poll are skewed because the choices were not good ones. I'm not ready to believe that folks feel they are on their own and don't want to pull together as a community. If you think I have it wrong sound off in the comments.. I'll be listening.
Would you come to class?

Folks have been asking about having computer classes again. Two things that are favorable around the neighborhood for such classes have shown up.

The first, as I look out my window today I see a dreary, foggy, rainy landscape. What a great day for a class. The trick is how to schedule classes on such a day. As you know when the sun comes out or the wild storms hit the coast our attention wanders to other activities.

The second, a new influx of computer literate neighbors are coming to Longview Hills. They may even be willing to share their computer expertise by teaching classes.

The lab has lain fallow during the summer and it’s time to fire it up and have some fun.

I am currently thinking about a class on RSS (Really Simple Syndication). WHAT? Well, we have written articles on the subject but haven’t really got to the meat of it like a class would.

Let’s give an example of what this could do for you. I’m going to use Wayne Hill who lives on the lower (view) level in the park. Wayne is known to many of you in the LVH Fishing Club as “BIG FISH”. Well Big Fish (Wayne), like you and me is a man of many interests and that... well, that is what your computer and RSS (Really Simple Syndication) are all about enhancing your interests and experiences with the latest information and stories from newspapers to people with blogs just like ours.. What if there was a way for you to keep up with what is happening in the nooks and crannies of Oregon or your old home town or where the Salmon are biting? What about where crab season is greatest? Hmm .. Well Wayne is certainly interested in those things but he and his wife, Liz have an extraordinary love for the Oregon Ducks. What if you could read all the blogs and up to date news and opinions on the Ducks? Like minded fans write little known stuff about them all the time? RSS is the answer. Wayne and Liz occasionally like to visit the local casino to try their hand at gaming. What if there were writings and ratings of where the winning is hottest? (RSS). Wayne has a boat.. Maybe it would be nice to know the whereabouts of all the boat and tackle shows.. What’s the latest in boating and equipment? (RSS)

We will leave Wayne and Liz alone now and tell you that there are tons of resources for every interest available on RSS. Recipes your thing? (RSS). Writing? (RSS) . Sewing, quilting? (RSS) Gold hunter? (RSS). Republican.. Democrat? (RSS) ATV’s? (RSS)
Gardening? (RSS) Travel? (RSS) History? (RSS) Science, technology? (RSS) Ancestor research? (RSS) Pets? (RSS). News from anywhere? (RSS)

Now then who is for a rainy day class in RSS? I guess we could schedule classes with the caveat if it is a terrific day we could cancel it because of good or big storm weather?

Dove ad,

THE VETRANS ADMINIST

THE VETRANS ADMINISTRATION... A follow up story..

Ron Thomas

A few months ago we called on all who had served their country to sign up and get their benefits. We told you it was not necessary that you served in a war time era that those benefits were yours bought and paid for by the American people to make sure that all of their Citizen Soldiers are looked after.

It’s true. I am now signed up with the VA. It took me about 4 months to get processed. However, today we learned that one of our own who was a reserve Marine and Coast Guard person, who thought they would not be eligible was accepted. They went through the process in about a week through the efforts of our local VA advocate (listed in the Newport phone book under Lincoln County VA). Another resident who had been refused but did not know why was championed at the same time by the VA advocate. He actually called Washington DC to get our resident’s claim rolling again.

Another resident visited me yesterday and said he had been refused but did not know why.. I sent him to our 30 year, Navy Marine Recon, Master Chief, Medic (RET). The Master Chief is our advocate and he is getting results for our folks.

If you were in the reserves and saw active duty you are probably eligible. Talk to the Master Chief. The time is very generous ... I think (do not know) it is as low as 90 days.
You have to have at least a general discharge no BCD or DD. You will need a copy of your DD-214. If you  don’t have it the Master Chief can help.

Those that I know who have been using the VA for sometime in the park use both the VA and Medicare and get the benefits of both.

There have been some of you that asked about this and I hope you spend a few minutes with the Master Chief and get started soon.

Just thought you ought to know ... neither South Beach nor Nehalem Bay State Parks in Oregon are clothing optional sites.

Rooster Rock is our only designated clothing optional area. I wouldn't want a visitor showing up expecting one thing and getting another.

Thanks.

DELIVERY TO LOCAL PENNY’S CATALOG STORE OR TO YOUR HOME?

Often times when we order from JC Penny either on line or on the phone we don’t think before we state to ship the product to our home address. After all, it is cheaper (usually less than $1.00) and it is more convenient. However when we need to return an item the JC Penny’s catalog store is the first place we think of.

Did you know, that unless the merchandise is shipped to the catalog store, they do not get commission on the sale and they get NO credit for helping us with the return items or shipping our returns back at NO CHARGE to us? After speaking to one of the owners I found out they had a very bad year and have considered closing the catalog store. They decided to give it one more year to see if business picks up.

If we want the convenience of returning JC Penny’s merchandise without cost or hassle then we must make it a little inconvenient and request our merchandise be delivered to the store when at all possible. I realize that if you order something too heavy or bulky to transport then home delivery is the only option.

However, the next time before you request Home Delivery think about what we will be loosing if the local store closes. You decide.
