FREE COMPUTERS FOR 100 PERCENT DISABLED VETERANS

from Kim Kommando's newsletter:

PB called the show last week. He asked about an item we once ran in this newsletter, concerning free computers for disabled veterans. I said we'd check it out and run it again. So, here it is. Help Hospitalized Veterans has distributed about 1,500 computers to disabled veterans. Nearly 200 of those were voice activated, for vets who are quadriplegics. To get one, you must have a 100 percent disability. You do not have to be hospitalized. This sounds like a great organization and a great program. You can reach the HHV at 951-926-9729. Its Web site is: HHV

I know I've got disabled vets listening to the show. God bless you all!"

TV at the clubhouse...

ron thomas

Today I was able to get my Laptop Computer to share it's monitor with the TV in the clubhouse. What this means is that the computer club can see illustrations of what is happening on the laptop displayed on the television larger screen.

This could help computer classes too. While sitting with one of the computers in the computer room students could see what the instructor was doing and mimic it.

There is a drawback. The TV in the clubhouse is small and although it is an improvement it is still a bit small for really good viewing.

Does anyone have a larger screen TV just sitting in their garage that they would like to donate? Or been thinking about buying a new TV and would like to find a home for your old one?

Also, Jack Scherer reported that Charter Communications won't give us a price break on a high speed internet connection.

Kay Simon sent in a recommendation...

Some of the ladies from the sewing group were excited about Kay Simon's recent experience with a window cleaning service... Which was a positive. We recorded the name and services with one star. Find the description on the U rate it link on the left.

Send me the name(s) of your favorite businesses or if you see a business that doesn't live upto a good rating on the rating page we remove a star.. No star.. No publish on the page. The more good reports the bussiness has the more stars we give it.

We take no money for putting these businesses on the site. It should be a true reflection of our community's oppinion and a helpful guide.

The Book Program to our Marine is done...

ron thomas

Today I got back a box of 20 books we sent in April by our library at LVH to our Marine in Iraq. The box went all the way there and came back thanks to the Dept. of Homeland Security and the US Postal Service. I had been sending them to the Marine or in his absence any Soldier, Airman,Sailor or Marine in Iraq. Homeland Security won't allow that anymore for a reason that no-one seems to know. Up until this package you could say give them to any of the warriors there now if the package was undeliverable. But now Homeland Security has decided pocket books cannot be given to just anybody they must be given to a specific person the danger is terribly accute the pocket books may cause death or destruction I guess.

When I was a young warrior folks could send mail and if it was addressed to anybody and it couldn't be delivered then somebody else in the outfit took it. I never heard of an exploding pocket book the entire time I served. Strange how things change.

Now you pay to send the stuff and fill out a customs declaration in quadruplicate which must be on the front of the package and must have a recipient ... no give it to someone else who wants it is allowed.

The Marine we were sending those pocket books to never sent anything back to LVH about receiving them. He told my son when he inquired that he did receive them but that's all I know.

Anyhow, that program has come to a close for now unless any of you have an idea or a new soldier we can adopt.

Cribbage.. Cribbage!!!!

Carol Grover is forming those folks interested in cribbage into a new group of fun seekers. She has a meeting sceduled at the clubhouse on Monday, May 16th, from 10 to 12. Be there!

CROP SPRAYING MAY 3RD HIGHWAY 34 TO WALDPORT

BY NOW YOU ARE SICK TO DEATH OF HEARING ABOUT THE CALENDAR.....

RON THOMAS

BUT.... You can tell your friends that the clubhouse bulletin board has the calendar posted for the months of MAY, JUNE, and July. We will be keeping the calendar projected 3 months ahead on the bulletin board so that you can better plan whether you can attend more functions.

Also, we think it may be a neat thing to publish 3 months in advance on the Newsletter so you can think about that and bring it to a vote at the next Social Club Meeting.

Also, we request that any time you are going to have some function at the clubhouse that you give me heads up email or phone call or a note in the mailbox so I can revise the calendar and get it posted everywhere.

Finished!!!! Yay!!!

ron thomas

Cleda brought me the list of September Birthdays from 2003 and they were incorporated into the calendar. Rose Troxel being the last name added.

The next calendar project will be to keep a 3 month projection posted on the Clubhouse Bulletin Board for those that haven't got a computer. Of course, if you have a computer you have access to the entire year's worth of events and birthdays. Also, all the holidays are shown on the calendar too.

The old Shilo Inn by the casino in Lincoln City

ron thomas

A group of us visited the Old Shilo inn restaurant in Lincoln City today. For shear ambiance it presents a view of the ocean with waves breaking on rocks. Very great view maybe the best of any restaurant in our local. The prices are 25% off the menu price for all the residents of Lincoln County Monday through Thursday. Go early and get even more off the special of the day before 4:00pm.

The place is definitely upscale with a full bar... Those that ordered cocktails were pleased with their libations and the service was in my opinion 5 star.

The meal has bread that is simply unbeatable... Freshly baked and yummy with generous portions of butter. Colorful Salads with olives and mushrooms.

The menu is not lengthy and looks kind of expensive until you factor in the generous discount for Lincoln County residents. We had the Prime rib and it was very good at $9.95. Halibut Fish chips rated at 3.5 stars (out of 5) by She Who Must Be Obeyed (Jacky Thomas).

We gave it a good review and added it to the U-Rate it page.. Remember you can email us with your ratings of any business in our town or outlying areas. Good ratings get a star. Bad ratings remove a star. No star? The business is removed from the site. If you participate we should begin to get an idea who is good for us to do business with as a community.

We like the concept because we are not telling anybody that a business is bad we are only logging the ones that people are pleased with. They also have to maintain their level of service to stay on the site.

SEPTEMBER BIRTHDAYS??????

RON THOMAS

We need a list of people who have September birthdays... Who has a newsletter from last September? We need help here. Can't complete the calendar without those names and dates. Anybody have the birthday list itself?

Happy Birthday Nancy Lee Moore!

The LVH Electronic Calendar (link on the left)..

ron thomas

The calendar now has everyone's birthday clear through 2007.. Everyone being those that were on the old birthday list. However, the birthdays for September are not recorded yet... I can't find a copy of them. Anybody have the list or a September News Letter that we could borrow?

Please proof read the calendar to see if your birthday has been recorded on the right date. if your name isn't there email me and it will be put on. Every month a new calendar will be posted in the Newsletter and the birthdays will be on it. You can check into the future to see what date your birthday falls on. No dates were listed prior to May of this year. January through April show up on the 2006 calendar which you can click on also... Clear through 2007.

Nancy Lee Moore asks a quetion..

from an email sent in by Nancy...

Has anyone else heard about the Wildcat and Coyotes coming into the park recently? We know about the raccoons attacking Garveys dog and the Porcupine attacking McFadden's dog in their respective back yards, but I have also heard that Coyotes have been seen slinking down the fire road just to the east of the Park by Sylvia Smith's house and that the cat has been seen on the north end of the park in a driveway. Are the stories true? What is attracting them so close to human habitation? What can be done to dissuade them before we lose some beloved pets?

Anyone have the facts and advice?

About the Park Calendar....

ron thomas

There is some confusion about the park calendar. Cleda Hampton wrote that she sees the newsletter social club minutes shows the Mother's Day dinner in conflict with what's on the calendar.Below is the response we sent her.

Cleda,

I (Ron Thomas)have to do the calendar for the website. Then I have to do Jacky's(Jacky Thomas-Social Events Chair) calendar for all the events and make all the posters. I asked Larry (Larry Henson)to notify me if there were any private functions or other changes to the master calendar and he has been doing that for us. Suddenly it ocurred to me ... If I am doing this anyhow why not just make the monthly calendar for the Newsletter. Joye Newman told Jacky she didn't mind at all if I took it over. Now I made a calendar for this month and submitted it to the newsletter editor box on the 25th... It is accurate but it is not the one that got published. I think the wires are crossed but I should be able to straighten it out by next month. Meanwhile, please send me any changes or questions about the calendar you may have. The Calendar on the website is the master calendar for the park... It reflects all changes as soon as they are made in real time. Also, if I make a change on the web calendar I make a paper copy and put it on the clubhouse calendar within a few hours.

With this system we hope to keep our events rapidly upto date. So, need a calendar change or have a question email me and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Now ther is another thing you folks with computers can do to keep yourself updated with changes as fast as they are made. I had to go to another format on this calendar and lost all the email me when there is a change addresses that you sent me.

So, anybody that wants to be notified by email as soon as a calendar change is made should send me a request to be put on the list.

Other things are being added to the calendar that have not been seen before. For instance the birthday list of all the park folk that had their birthdays listed for the newsletter now will show up on the calendar automatically every year. We have entered about half of them so far. Once entered the calendar keeps them from year to year with no more human intervention necessary. All the traditional holidays and a few others show up. We think you will like the new format as can be seen on the clubhouse bulletin board

Any of you that want something updated or have a question about the calendar please Email me at
teckron@hotmail.com

I could use help from a guru right about now...

ron thomas

I have been trying to set up my laptop computer to put it's screen on a tv monitor. The idea was that we in the computer club could better see what came up for discussion if we could put the diplay on to the clubhouse TV where talking points could be illustrated. Following all the steps in my manual I can get the laptop to put the desktop picture on the monitor(TV) but it will not switch screens along with the computer. The laptop I am using will not access one of the steps necessary in the instructions. I am convinced that this is where I am stuck. Has anyone had this problem and solved it?

Do you want to build your own....

ron thomas

Would you like to have your own personal website just like our web page? Staying away from the idea because you feel it is to hard to do? You could have a family website where your friends and relatives could leave stories, messages about what's happening and pictures to share. It can be made private where access is to your family and friends.

Well it isn't hard at all. But it sure helps to have someone who has done it before with you. The last person we helped set up a webstie was Milt Sadusky. He has a link on the left side of the page where you can look at it. His took us about an hour with me standing behind him and guiding him while he made the choices he wanted himself. The hour included instuction on how to use the site. For this we charge the very affordable rate of only... $0.00 per hour but somtimes we ask for double time and a half :)

This could be the type of subject that we would see at our computer club meeting coming up on the 19th.

Should you be interested in setting it up yourself you can try it by clicking on the BLOGGER icon at the bottom of the links on the left side of this page. If you get stuck let me know... we'll help.
