LINKS....

rt

I forget sometimes and just throw words around assuming that everyone is on the same wave link as myself. Evidently, the word LINK is confusing to some folks new to computing and so we thought we devote a little time here and try to explain it better.

Do you see that web page address at the top of your browser now? It looks like this...

http://www.longviewhillshere.blogspot.com

That is the address of this webpage that you are looking at now. It is just like your home street address. That is where this page lives on the internet.

Every time you click on a new webpage to look at you will notice that the above address changes for each and every website. Just like I live at 5706 NE Windmill dr. and you live at your different address.

Now if we were to write your address down and show it to you here as if we were a telephone directory you would know right where to go. We could say that your address is a link that could be followed to find your home.

So when we put a link down for you to follow we are saying click here and you will be taken to the place from which this information comes.

Now people who can program these links have learned that people get confused by that long string of code as in that example above. So they might just put down a word like LINK which disguises all the code necessary to make a link work. You just click on the word then and it takes you to the source page that is being discussed.

In most cases links are blue and underlined. BUT!!!! On this site they are green and only become underlined if you put the mouse arrow on them.

So at the bottom of the snippets 0f news stories you will find the word LINK and clicking on that word will take you the full article at its news source.

One other thing ... Nope it's not hard at all and envolves little or no work to put in these snippets and links to news that I think may interest you.

TALK AND WALK ???

RT

I was listening to a group of our ladies just talking and having a good old time at the potluck breakfast today. One said that she should walk but it's no fun going alone.

Me thinks that's a really good idea. Our ladies so enjoy talking. Why not do that and get a bit of exercise at the same time? The more the merrier. What we need is a time that walkers go by your house then you just pop out and walk and talk. For instance Bev Garvey would call one lady and say I'm going out in ten minutes heading to the clubhouse and that lady would call another and say she was going out and heading to the clubhouse. And so on ... They would all meet up along the way and continue their walk and talk until done or done in and then drop off at their own homes.

There certainly is no need to be lonely... I think this would be a real easy group to form and keep up. A few of you could start any minute now.. and hold your meeting while you walk. You could decide how you want to do it... Then let me know and I'll make posters for the Bulletin Board and put an article on here with whatever you want to say.

Once you get started it will only take a phone call to one person from the one who is leader that day... Maybe you could have lemonaid and pit stops at various folks homes around the neighborhood..

About 7:00 pm, June 24th

Marlene Crites called us and reported:

A man about 6ft tall resembling Billy Bob Thorton (the actor) 160 lbs in his 50's, red and white shirt, and a baseball cap and blue jeans was seen by Marlene Crites on Evergreen acting in a suspicious manner closely examining houses. She followed him in her car for a time and then lost him somewhere by the clubhouse. She said, "Hi" to him to let him know that he had been seen.

Later she called Pat Barker (realtor) and asked her if she had sold a house to anybody resembling that description. Pat said, "No". She then called Jacky Thomas (Block Captian) who advised her to call Barbara Parks (Block Captian Co-ordinator). Jacky called the folks on her list with the above description and a suggestion to make sure everything is locked up.

Bored? Laying around the house because you're laid up from a medical condition?

I was thinking the other day that when I am stuck at home I get stir crazy. If you have a computer and would like to learn how to do stuff on it. I could lend you a hand... Especially if you have Windows XP. Want to learn something about the internet? How to do something on the computer?

I could come to your home in the evening and give you a boost. Want to learn how to shop eBay? How to make super pictures? How to use graphics? Make your very own blog like this one? How to organize and make folders? If you would like to learn how to run the LVH Calendar on line or Make posters for the bulletin board. Set up for the newspaper advertising ... I can show you how it's done... That doesn't mean you have to do it... It just means you can learn how it's done for fun.Things like that can give you hours and hours of entertainment.

LISA GRACE LEDNICER and DANA TIMS

The superheated housing market isn't a bonanza for everyone: Residents of at least four Portland area manufactured-housing parks have been forced to move in the past few months as park owners, seduced by skyrocketing land prices, sell to developers.

Manufactured home parks in Beaverton, Tualatin, Wilsonville and West Linn serving primarily low-income older residents have shut down within the past six months or are in the process of closing. They're being redeveloped for retail use or housing, with rents expected to far exceed what is collected from park residents."

Some days are meant to dream... here we wonder at a beautiful day in the neighborhood across the street at the lighthouse during a picnic.

If you don't know it yet.... You can get a forever pass to all National owned parks for $10 if you are 62 or older. Buy it at the gate at the lighthouse and picnic as often as you want.

Looking for expertise.... with a telescope

rt

Ben Davi gave me an old 4" tasco illuminator reflector telescope yesterday. I had trouble zeroing in on an object. I used the spotting refactor scope and aligned the star in the cross hairs but could not find it through the reflector. This leads me to beleive there may be an alignment proceedure that needs to be performed. The TASCO website was no help and they have broken links to their support. So I'm wondering if you have any advice?

RED LIGHT ...

RT
We may have someone who paid for a red light but did not receive one. I know we have one to do yet for Bobby and Carmen Dean and the parts are on order but I have a nagging feeling we left someone out. We had some post it notes that got thrown out when we had a recent cleaning frenzy and now I am not sure if we have got everybody. I know Dr Smith wanted his repaired and parts are on order for that.

So if you wanted or paid for a red light or post number please let me know so we can get it done...

HMMM.... Here we have a mystery...

rt

Don't you just love a good mystery?

Well today Donna Davi opened up the Social Club Lock Box in the club house and found a $5 bill... No message. Nothing. She thinks it must be for a post light number but doesn't know who to credit it to or if someone wants a number but doesn't have one.

Me I think it was a tip for all the good Social Club Service. Now Jacky thinks it was a benefactor that left us a boon in their will.

If you can help us sort out what the $5 was for that would be nice. Meanwhile Ben has taken it down to the crime lab for finger print analysis and DNA work up.

Barking upsetting to you?

rt

Personally I don't have a problem with any dogs barking but I have found that some folks are upset with neighbor dogs barking. One friend has told me that it is a concern that his dogs might bother someone with their barking.

Sometimes tolerance is in short supply and we feel the neighbor actually doesn't care that you are being bothered. I find that to be unlikely. If you talk to a neighbor about problems you can usually come to some sort of an understanding.

That said there seems to be several barking dog solutions that an owner can use to curtail the problem. Or, if you as a neighbor are bothered and can't find a solution the same things can be used by you.

Here is a link to SmartHome that sells all sorts of home automation products.. including the parts to make your emergency flashing red light system here in the park. This link goes directly to the devices for bark control

IT has been nearly six months since the tsunami struck 11 nations surrounding the Indian Ocean, killing more than 200,000 people. The tragedy touched the chord of our common humanity. Forty countries committed military forces to provide food, water and shelter to the survivors. Millions of Americans contributed more than $1 billion to the relief effort. Millions of others across the world also sent contributions, and the United Nations and hundreds of charitable organizations rushed to the region."

Step outside any evening at sunset and look around. You'll see a giant moon rising in the east. It looks like Earth's moon, round and cratered; the Man in the Moon is in his usual place. But something's wrong. This full moon is strangely inflated. It's huge!"
