COMPUTER CLUB MEETS
WENESDAY MARCH 22nd  @1:00pm

Plain Talk on a new

Plain Talk on a new group

We have a new group of men that have formed to help. So far there are 5 men in the group. This team of men is called Shared Hands.

Shared Hands will help folks in our community that have broken or unassembled equipment... and the emergency red light system. Items that need to be repaired such as disability walkers, wheel chairs. Maybe hook up of systems that are needed for the health and well being of elder seniors.

Sometimes they may be able to help folks that are laid up get medicine or groceries.

That gives you an idea what these guys are about... and now comes the upfront, plain talk....

They are not interested in doing your gardening or painting your home. Don’t call them to move your furniture around or do your weekly grocery shopping. We can’t think of a quicker way to kill the interest these fellas have in our community.

Men, if you are interested in putting those tools rusting in your garage to use helping a neighbor call or email me to join the group.

Those in need call Jacky or me and leave a message.

A CARROT, AN EGG, AND A CUP OF COFFEE………
A carrot, an egg, and a cup of coffee...You will never look at a cup of coffee the same way again.A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose. Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil.
In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil; without saying a word.In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl.Turning to her daughter, she asked, "Tell me what you see.""Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she replied. Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard boiled egg. Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The daughter then asked, "What does it mean, mother?"Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water."Which are you?" she asked her daughter. "When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength?Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, afinancial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you. When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough hope to make you happy. The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; you can't go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches. When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling.Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.
WHICH ONE ARE YOU?

Announcing Shared Ha

Announcing “Shared Hands”

There is a new small group at LVH.. They are a low profile, exceptional group of men. You know them all. They have band together to help those of our residents who need help doing minor jobs and keeping the emergency red light system in working order throughout the park.

They are not here to move your furniture and work in your yard. Rather, they want to do things like build a bracket for a breathing oxygen tank. Or, repair a disability walker,.  Or, maybe run an ill person to the Dr. (we don’t do dr. appointments) or pick up a few things at the store for the laid up (we don’t do your ordinary grocery shopping). That type of stuff. They have their own private web site where they can track a list of jobs that are requested in the park.

If you want to be one of these few good men there is a list on the bulletin board and you can sign on there.

If you have a need you can call me for now and I will get your job on the list.

Notes on the Poll

Notes on the Poll

29 folks voted .. 12 voted to keep things the way they are. 6 said do away  with all the news that isn’t local. 3 didn’t like the birthday cards. Some few thought we could create another website for news.

This wasn’t the only poll going on.. We have a statistics site that Jim Dodd’s found and setup for us. It shows how many pageloads a day we get. You could say that it is a poll where the pageloads are the vote. In other words folks vote by whether they go to your site or not. During our restraining of  putting articles on.. which admitantly was only a couple of days.. maybe 4 at the most. Our readership fell from about 300 a day to 100 a day. Now that poll does say something don’t you think?

However, I do have a solution for you that is pretty neat. I will be at the computer lab to help with computer problems from 6 to 8pm Monday through Friday for awhile. I can help set you up with a news reader in which you can put 100’s of news sources about the subjects you like right on your own computer.. In other words there is a way for you to tailor all the news you like into one spot. Drop by.. Let’s talk.

From an email...

The other day a young person asked me how I felt about being old. I was
>taken aback, for I do not think of myself as old. Upon seeing my reaction,
>he was immediately embarrassed, but I explained that it was an interesting
>question, and I would ponder it, and let him know.
>
>
>Old age, I decided,
>is a gift.
>
>
>I am now, probably for the first time in my life, the person I have always
>wanted to be. Oh, not my body! I sometime despair over my body, the
>wrinkles, the baggy eyes, and the sagging butt. And often I am taken aback
>by that old person that lives in my mirror, but I don't agonize over those
>things for long.
>
>
>I would never trade my amazing friends, my wonderful life, my loving family
>for less gray hair or a flatter belly. As I've aged, I've become more kind
>to myself, and less critical of myself. I've become my own friend. I
>don't
>chide myself for eating that extra cookie, or for not making my bed, or for
>buying that silly cement gecko that I didn't need, but looks so savant
>grade
>on my patio. I am entitled to overeat, to be messy, to be extravagant. I
>have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon; before they
>understood the great freedom that comes with aging.
>
>
>
>Whose business is it if I choose to read or play on the computer until
>4 a.m., and sleep until noon?
>
>
>
>I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 60's, and if I, at
>the same time, wish to weep over a lost love ... I will.
>
>
>
>I will walk the beach in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body,
>and will dive into the waves with abandon if I choose to, despite the
>pitying glances from the bikini set. They, too, will get old.
>
>
>
>I know I am sometimes forgetful. But there again, some of life is just as
>well forgotten ... and I eventually remember the important things.
>
>
>
>Sure, over the years my heart has been broken. How can your heart not
>break
>when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers, or even when a beloved
>pet gets hit by a car? But broken hearts are what give us strength and
>understanding and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile
>and will never know the joy of being imperfect.
>
>

>I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turn gray, and to
>have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face. So
>many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn
>silver. I can say "no," and mean it. I can say "yes," and mean it.
>
>As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what
>other people think. I don't question myself anymore. I've even earned the
>right to be wrong.
>
>So, to answer your question, I like being old. It has set me free. I like
>the person I have become. I am not going to live forever, but while I am
>still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or
>worrying about what will be.
>And I shall eat dessert every single day.

'If we are right,' said one of the Cassini researchers, the moon 'might possibly have conditions suitable for living organisms.' Liquid water is generally considered one of the likely preconditions for extraterrestrial life, along with sources of heat and organic materials. But why are we so sure water is crucial for the development of life?

Back when I spent as much time in a fishing boat as I did on dry land, I got pretty handy at making quick repairs.
When the fuel line for my outboard motor developed a leak, I fixed the problem without missing a cast. It wasn't a bad leak, but it was dangerous. I used bubble gum and duct tape to stop it. In the high-tech world, a repair like that is called a quick and dirty fix. Some - like my bubble gum and duct tape fix - can't be recommended as long-term solutions. But there are quick fixes you should know about. I'll talk about a few today.
