The Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe has produced a more detailed picture of the infant universe. Colors indicate 'warmer' (red) and 'cooler' (blue) spots. White bars show the 'polarization' direction of the oldest light. This information helps pinpoint when the first stars formed and provides clues about what happened in the universe's first trillionth of a second.
