The LVH CERT team spoke to Golf Course Owner Terry Martin who volunteered his golf course as an emergency landing Heliport for evacuations.
We are allowed to use 2 sites on the course and he has given us permission, with co-ordination, to hold drills. Soon we will speak to the Coast Guard to see if our LVH CERT team can have an actual hands on training exercise.
This is the driving range. The very light greenish brown area in the background is our prefered landing zone.
This is the back of the clubhouse is landing zone #2
Below is a direct shot of landing zone #2

An email from Larry Henson...
Hi Ron,
I was contacted by Mark Jones today about some suspicious activity occurring around the 57th Street gate to Longview Hills.
Mr. Jones lives in the area and said he was concerned about unusual activity around the gate when he came home from work in the evenings.
Mr. Jones said he noticed a large number of cig butts and other items deposited in the vacinity and possibly some individuals off in the darkness.
Mr. Jones asked that our neighborhood watch group be aware of this as he is also monitoring the situation. Have CC'D others and hope this has been accurately stated.
Joanne on Windmill dr. (a Block Captain) also confirmed this report. Let's get behind this and watch.. I will patrol the gate a couple of times this evening. Everyone, please lock your homes.

Occasionally.....
I've got myself into a jam by having to many activities going on so I'm forced to do a terrible job at all of them or spread them out a little. First on the "spread-out" list is the new walking club that was to start Monday at 9:00am. Did not do a good organizing or advertising job on this one so am putting off the walk until a week from Monday, May 28th . Anyone wanting to take leadership of this one is certainly welcome.
Next, the CERT team is anxious to meet with the Neighborhood Watch block captains at one of the CERT meeting days with coffee and donuts... Not a formal thing but a partners event where we can sit around and discuss new ways we can work together. Part social and part serious.. That was to start soon but I am moving that ahead to Wednesday, June 6th. Block Captains with questions that they would like considered ahead of time ... drop me an email. The current thinking is to include block captains in a CERT table top drill where they get involved on their radios making reports to CERT Communications (Liz Hill) in the format that gets Cert activated light years of the old way of doing things.

This was first reported as a snake pulling a cow out of the water, but on closer inspection it is a wallaby. This was taken in western Australia.

Studies Tie Vitamins, Prostate Cancer | TIME
Studies Tie Vitamins, Prostate Cancer | TIME: "(WASHINGTON) — There's more worrisome news about vitamins: Taking too many may increase men's risk of dying from prostate cancer.
The study, being published Wednesday, doesn't settle the issue. But it is the biggest yet to suggest high-dose multivitamins may harm the prostate, and the latest chapter in the confusing quest to tell whether taking various vitamins really helps a variety of conditions — or is a waste of money, or worse.
Government scientists turned to a study tracking the diet and health of almost 300,000 men. About a third reported taking a daily multivitamin, and 5 percent were heavy users, swallowing the pills more than seven times a week."

Lowest Tides of the Year This Week on Oregon Coast
Lowest Tides of the Year This Week on Oregon Coast: "Oregon Coast) - The lowest tides of the year are coming to the Oregon coast this week – in most places, that is. It depends a bit on where you’re looking at and when, with some interesting differences between areas of the coast that are bound to stump tourists.
On May 17 and 18 – Thursday and Friday - you’ll find the lowest minus tides between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. But there’s just a sliver of a difference between the north coast and the central coast – just enough for it to be inaccurate to declare that record for the entire coast, and for it to be a bit confusing."

The Greatest Show in Space | TIME
The Greatest Show in Space | TIME: "Remember the supernova, that great burst of sky violence that was supposed to be the finest pyrotechnics show the heavens could offer? Forget it. NASA's Chandra X-Ray Observatory and several ground-based optical telescopes have just witnessed a cosmic blast that makes the supernova look like a popgun.
The explosion, the subject of a paper that will appear in an upcoming issue of the Astrophysical Journal, took place 240 million light-years away and was, in the words of astronomer Nathan Smith of the University of California, Berkeley, a leader of the observing team, 'truly monstrous.' About 100 times as powerful as an ordinary supernova, it resulted from the death of a star that was probably 150 times as massive as our sun, or 'as massive as a star can get,' says Smith. What's more, a similarly huge and unstable star is rumbling a lot closer to Earth than we might like."
