Fertilized Microbes Make Natural Gas Fast, Study Says

Fertilized Microbes Make Natural Gas Fast, Study Says: "A vast new energy supply could be generated simply by feeding fertilizer to deep-dwelling microbes that create the key ingredient of natural gas as they live off harder-to-tap deposits in older oil fields, new research suggests.

Canadian and English researchers were able to convert heavy oil into usable methane in small glass tubes in a mere two years of lab research—instead of the tens of thousands of years the process can take on its own."

"Year's Best" Meteor Shower to Peak December 13-14

"Year's Best" Meteor Shower to Peak December 13-14: "The Geminid meteor shower—considered by many to be the most active annual sky show—is going to be especially spectacular this year, astronomers predict. The show gets its name from the constellation Gemini, because the meteors appear to stream from near the constellation's bright star Castor. The last time the sky was this dark during the shower was in 1996, when observers saw up to 110 meteors an hour. Experts say the rate will be at least that high this year, with peak viewing on December 13 and 14."

Energy source of Northern Lights found - USATODAY.com: "Scientists think they have discovered the energy source of the spectacular color displays seen in the northern lights. New data from NASA's Themis mission, a quintet of satellites launched this winter, found the energy comes from a stream of charged particles from the sun flowing like a current through twisted bundles of magnetic fields connecting Earth's upper atmosphere to the sun."

R U A SCANNER DOG?

Scanner dogs are people who listen to radio scanners to hear what's going on in the community. They know what the police are doing and the sheriff, fire department, ambulance, rescue teams, PUD, Coast Guard and all manner of agencies.

Not only is it interesting but can be very helpful during power outages and severe weather.. Keeps you abreast of what's going on.

One of the things that all these agencies use to identify where they are is to give their position reports as next to such and such mileage marker. Now, thanks to Dan Wilson for getting us a copy of those locations and to Barb Dudley for retyping it as a google document and publishing it to the internet we have a link we can use to make a copy of those locations any time we want.

Look on the left just above the CERT Logo and you will find our new Scanner Dog link...
Our Thanks to Dan and Barb.
