Where is our Longview Hills Goat?

Weed-Whacking Goats Will Work For Food : NPR: "There are baby goats and mama goats, but they're all hungry goats. This natural landscaping crew was trucked in from a farm in San Diego. Their assignment: mowing down the unruly growth of brush on these 2 1/2 acres.

'I've never seen them used for this,' Giddings says. 'I think it's hysterical.'"

Local News | 109 geese euthanized in Bend, Oregon | Seattle Times Newspaper

Local News | 109 geese euthanized in Bend, Oregon | Seattle Times Newspaper: "BEND, Ore. — A memorial service is planned to mourn the 109 Canada geese euthanized to keep the birds from overrunning city parks in Bend.

The service will be held Thursday evening at the Galveston Bridge in Drake Park.

Foster Fell, who had urged the Parks & Recreation District not to kill the geese, says he hopes the event will help people console each other.

Growing numbers of geese have caused problems for years. Last year the district spent $22,000 on cleaning up damages caused by the birds.

District Board Chairman Scott Wallace says it is unfortunate the parks can't support all the geese."

Local News | Get NOAA to rethink move to Oregon, Locke urged | Seattle Times Newspaper: "Local and federal elected officials on Thursday urged U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke to intervene in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) decision to move its research fleet from Seattle to Newport, Ore.

In a letter to Locke, a former Washington governor, the officials said NOAA should reconsider basing the fleet at one of two existing federal facilities in Seattle rather than spending $2.5 million annually for a new site in Oregon."

A garage owner in South Minneapolis was tired of thugs breaking into his garage shop to steal tools, etc. so he came up with a new way to protect his property.
He put the word out that he had acquired a lion that would attack anyone who tried to break in or climb his fence. Would-be thieves saw the "lion" from a distance and decided that there probably was an easier target elsewhere.

Overcrowding in prison? Just execute the inmates.... Be glad you live in America even if you are in prison.

Rights body asks Nigeria to stop execution of 800 prisoners - Rest of World - World - The Times of India: "The African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights (ACHPR) has asked Nigeria not to execute 800 prisoners on death row following a petition by an NGO, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) which said the government's only justification for executing the prisoners was to decongest prisons."

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.--I'm staring down into a pit in which the beginnings of what will one day be the most advanced aircraft carrier on Earth are already well under way.
This is the dry dock of CVN-78, otherwise known as the Gerald R. Ford, the first in a technologically advanced new class of aircraft carriers known as, yes, the Gerald R. Ford, and yes, named after the 38th president of the United States. A new class of naval vessel is always known by the name of the first model, it seems.

Crosscut.com: Godden: Thanks, Sen. Cantwell, for grilling Locke over NOAA's move: "The tense exchange between once-fellow Washington state Democrats keyed off a federal report faulting the agency's decision to move from Seattle to Newport, Ore."
