Energy Research on a Shoestring - New York Times: "So while all kinds of domestic energy technologies are being advanced in the name of energy independence, most of the money and attention are still focused on the dirty but cheaper standbys: offshore oil, oil sands and coal, in all its various incarnations, from straight out of the pit to black-coal liquid."

Deep Sea Fish Washes Up on Oregon Coast - Alive: "Photos by Tiffany Boothe

(Seaside, Oregon) – “It just goes to show what cool things there are out there for beachcombers,” said Keith Chandler, manager of Seaside Aquarium. “You never know what you’ll find.”

For the second time in three months, the north Oregon coast was the recipient of a rare fish stranding event, where a live fish was rescued by staff at the Seaside Aquarium.

On Friday, a group of concerned citizens discovered something flopping around in the surf at Sunset Beach, just north of Seaside. The creature in question turned out to be a longnose skate, which was not only alive – but was an extraordinary find because this species usually lives well below the ocean surface."

This is truly amazing. Be sure to click on NEXT PAGE at the bottom of each page; there are 5 pages in all. A lady found a hummingbird nest and got pictures all the way from the egg to leaving the nest. Took 24 days from birth to flight. Because you'll probably never in your life time see this again, enjoy; and please share. The nest is not even as wide as a toothpick is long!

High-tech police tool pinpoints where a gun is fired - USATODAY.com: "High-tech police tool pinpoints where a gun is fired

By Ben Arnoldy, The Christian Science Monitor
BOSTON — Even the best police gumshoe can go in circles chasing down a reported gunshot. Was the sound echoing from another direction? Was it just a firecracker? Sorting it out takes precious minutes – especially if a victim lies wounded, or a criminal is slipping away.

Enter gunshot detection technology.

Sixteen cities across the country have installed ShotSpotter, a system of rooftop listening devices that triangulates the origin of gunshots and pinpoints, in seconds, the location on a map. This week, Boston introduces a plan to spend $1.5 million on the system."

These snaked their way to the coast through riverbeds and around other features, arriving at the coast to build up and up out of deltas of rubbly submarine pillow basalt, which were capped by sheets of dry-land lava flows.Tillamook Head, SeasideThey too were eroded by time and water into shapes we now know as Cape Foulweather, Cape Lookout, Yaquina Head and Cape Meares"
