June Shatters Average Global Temperature Records (Again) | Inhabitat - Green Design Will Save the World

June Shatters Average Global Temperature Records (Again) | Inhabitat - Green Design Will Save the World: "This past June was the hottest ever on record according to a just released NOAA State of the Climate Report. Perhaps even more eye opening is that June’s record breaking heat is on the back of the hottest March, April, and May on record. The monthly report added that this would make June the 304th consecutive month with a global temperature above the 20th century average, and July is looking to keep the streak going. Breaking temperature records sounds like a broken record by now. Shall we go on?"

Wilder by the college

NEWPORT -- The invitation called for everyone to come party in the park at Wilder, a new playground built from recycled plastic bottles.

Cool enough.

But it was what the invitation didn't say that was the real news. This was not just any old sustainably built playground, but the opening structure in what developers conceive as Newport's first "green" village.

Telemedicine Comes Into Its Own - International Business Times

Telemedicine Comes Into Its Own - International Business Times: "Not only has the government aided the growth of telemedicine but investments by big companies have as well. Cisco, United Healthcare and the Mayo Clinic have all devoted resources to the cause.

'Telemedicine was done for many years regionally,' McCafferty said. 'Now you have mainstream companies saying this is an important application. They are saying there is money to be made and money to be saved.'

Traditionally, telemedicine has been used for medical consultation and surgical procedures in poorer, rural communities. However, the current usage of telemedicine stretches beyond these areas."

The Roku Box: Mommy's New Favorite Gadget | Inhabitots

The Roku Box: Mommy's New Favorite Gadget | Inhabitots: "Think gadgetry can’t be “green”? My family’s favorite home-entertainment gadget turns this stereotype on its head! In my household, the hardest working gadget is our Roku Box — or as we often call it, theNetflix box. Despite our nickname for it, we love it just as much for watching new releases, listening to music and viewing photos, too. This lightweight, compact little black box is Wi-Fi ready and streams content from the Web onto our TV with ease, entertaining my kids for hours, without DVDs, Netflix mailers or any other excess clutter."

Google Reader (1): "While most of these pictures have previously been published by the mainstream media - and presumably will remain publicly available - that assumption is not 100% certain. By way of analogy, the government sometimes reclassifies as top secret information which was previously declassified."

Study: Organic, Cage-Free Eggs No Healthier Than Factory - TIME

Study: Organic, Cage-Free Eggs No Healthier Than Factory - TIME: "Like any other workers, hens turn out economy, premium and luxury products — known as factory, cage-free and organic eggs — and consumers pay accordingly. A recent survey conducted in one random city — Athens, Ga. — found factory eggs going for $1.69 per dozen, cage-free for $2.99 to $3.59, and organic for $3.99 to a whopping $5.38.

But it's worth it to pay more because you're getting a healthier product, right? Wrong."

The Egg

The Egg: "The Egg
By: Andy Weir

You were on your way home when you died.
It was a car accident. Nothing particularly remarkable, but fatal nonetheless. You left behind a wife and two children. It was a painless death. The EMTs tried their best to save you, but to no avail. Your body was so utterly shattered you were better off, trust me.
And that’s when you met me.
“What… what happened?” You asked. “Where am I?”
“You died,” I said, matter-of-factly. No point in mincing words.
“There was a… a truck and it was skidding…”
“Yup,” I said.
“I… I died?”
“Yup. But don’t feel bad about it. Everyone dies,” I said.
You looked around. There was nothingness. Just you and me. “What is this place?” You asked. “Is this the afterlife?”
“More or less,” I said.

“Are you god?” You asked."
