Newport News-Times: Spring has sprung:
Yellow daffodils are blooming all over Newport this spring as a result of a community project called 'Fields of Freedom.' The flowers pictured here are in front of Coast Guard Station Yaquina Bay. Last November, area agencies, organizations, businesses and individuals planted thousands of daffodil bulbs around the city. The idea was not only to beautify Newport, but also to honor American troops, similar to the idea of displaying yellow ribbons.

GRAND PRIZE

Kim Steininger

Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania

"I took this picture right before I ducked," says Steininger. On a bird-watching trip in Ontario, Canada, last winter, the network administrator noticed that one of the great gray owls she was photographing was staring back at her. "I didn't think anything of it until it started flying at me," she says. Before getting out of the way, Steininger captured this digital photo with a 500mm telephoto lens.

Newport News-Times: County plans to protect Yaquina River wetland:
By Joel Gallob Of the News-Times
Lincoln County is in the process of developing the paperwork to help the Wetlands Conservancy purchase a conservation easement to protect a parcel of wetlands on the north side of the Yaquina River, midway between Newport and Toledo. The county, in this instance, is in the interesting position of being both the owner of the property to be protected while, at the same time, helping to finance the transaction.

The Wetlands Conservancy has offered $43,000 in cash to the county, reported County Counsel Wayne Belmont, toward the purchase of a conservation easement in the wetland. Such an easement does not transfer title to the property, but rather, creates a prohibition against certain kinds of activities - those that could impair the natural character of the site.

CALLING JIM DODDS... READ THIS!!!!!

Meow... meow! Meow!

Jim, kitty found his/her way into a bathroom closet in your old home.. The door was shut... Kitty could not get out.. So she thought she would take a nap... When she woke up her person was gone.. She could not get out. She yelled for help... Pat Barker heard her and Lorraine Spenser put on some gloves and got her out.. She told Lorraine what she thought about the whole thing. Lorraine took her home and has her locked away in her spare room because Lorraine’s Kitty is in a snit about the newcomer and has expressed in no uncertain terms that this is her house and no new kitty is welcome.

Lorraine will be emailing you about Kitty’s plight. Just in case you have put off reading your email during your move we figured you might read this page and see about Kitty.

BRAIN TESTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's that time of year to take our annual senior citizen test." Exercise of the brain is as important as exercise of the muscles. As we grow older, it's important that we keep mentally alert. The saying "If you don't use it, you will lose it" also applies to the brain, so... Below is a very private way to gauge your loss or non-loss of intelligence. So, take the following test presented here and determine if you are losing it or are still "with it."

The spaces below are so you don't see the answers until you have made your answer.
OK, relax, clear your mind and... Begin. WELL MAYBE NOT THAT CLEAR!

1. What do you put in a toaster? Answer: "bread."

If you said "toast," then give up now and go do something else. Try not to hurt yourself. If you said, "bread," go to Question 2.

2. Say "silk" five times. Now spell "silk." What do cows drink? Answer: Cows drink water.

If you said "milk," please do not attempt the next question. Your brain is obviously overstressed and may even overheat. It may be that you need to content yourself with reading something more appropriate such as Children's World.

If you said "water" then proceed to question 3.

3. If a red house is made from red bricks and a blue house is made from blue bricks and a pink house is made from pink bricks and a black house is made from black bricks, what is a green house made from?

Answer: Greenhouses are made from glass. If you said "green bricks," what the devil are you still doing here reading these questions????? If you said "glass," then go on to Question 4.

4. It's twenty years ago, and a plane is flying at 20,000 feet over Germany (If you will recall, Germany at the time was politically divided into West Germany and East Germany.) Anyway, during the flight, TWO of the engines fail. The pilot, realizing that the last remaining engine is also failing, decides on a crash landing procedure. Unfortunately the engine fails before he has time and the plane fatally crashes smack in the middle of "no man's land" between East Germany and West Germany. Where would you bury the survivors? East Germany or West Germany or in "no man's land"?

Answer: You don't, of course, bury survivors. If you said ANYTHING else, you are a real dunce and you must NEVER try to rescue anyone from a plane crash. Your efforts would not be appreciated. If you said "Don't bury the survivors," then proceed to the next question.

5. Without using a calculator - You are driving a bus from London to Milford Haven in Wales . In London, 17 people get on the bus. In Reading, six people get off the bus and nine people get on. In Swindon, two people get off and four get on. In Cardiff, 11 people get off and 16 people get on. In Swansea, three people get off and five people get on. In Carmathen, six people get off and three get on. You then arrive at Milford Haven.

What was the name of the bus driver?

Answer: Oh, for crying out loud! Don't you remember your own name? It was YOU!! Now pass this along to all your "smart friends" and hope they do better than you did.

PS: 95% of people fail in most of the questions!!
"MEETING WITH THE COUNTY SHERIFF"

Last night Ed Simon and I attended the pre-reported meeting with the local Lincoln County Sheriff Dotson and staff from his department. There were about 30 people in attendance and I feel more could of been there if they were concerned about what is happening within the Sheriffs Department. It was a very interesting meeting, a lot of remarks and questions from those there. This is a first of meetings to be held in the future with your County Sheriff Deparment. Tonight there is a meeting at Walport and then tomorrow night in Lincoln City. In the future the Sheriff offered to speak to us the residents at the Club House, this will be reported when this will happen. Also the Newport Police Chief was also in attendance and he also offered to speak to us in the future. Crime is a very big problem and it can effect anyone, anytime and so the more we have knowledge, the safer we can be in our homes and our county. I thank Sheriff Dotson and his staff for taking time to meet with the residents of Lincoln County and look forward to the meetings down the road. Let's take a big bite out of crime and get involved.

Just about that time of day to be at the Longview Hills Club House for the weekly computer club meeting.........see you there at 1p.m. today
....great place to learn more about using a computer.

"REDECORATING TIME AT THE CLUB HOUSE"

Today at the Longview Hills Club House it was time to remove the St. Patricks items and up with the Easter/Spring decor. We had a nice turn out and always room for more hands. While there today we did alittle spring cleaning inside the Club House and the head Web Master Ron Thomas was there with his duster to direct us, he was primed for the job. Thanks to all those who took part in this chore today. Hope to see you at the Easter Brunch and Potluck on the 15th of this month, always great food is served and once again wonderful fellowship. Remember to sign up on the sheet at the Club house if you plan to be there and what potluck dish you will bring, we want to make sure there will be enough food for all.

LVH Main Gate

As this article is raising community awareness and creating discussion we will leave it on top of the story string for awhile to give residents both a chance to vote and a chance to discuss ideas. When complete we will see that Larry Henson gets a transcript of the article, discussion and the poll..RT

In a conversation with Larry Henson, Park Manager, he told us the gate will be locked in the open position for a few days. He said over the last few months and just recently the gate arm came down on a resident’s car when they were driving through. He is concerned about the frequency of this happening and has decided for the gate to remain open until a contractor can submit a bid for replacing it. There are only two contractors that are willing to come to the coast and bid that Mr. Henson has found. One is talking about a figure around $30,000. The other is talking about $6000. The one talking the lesser price said he has gates installed in communities in the valley that operate by remote controller similar to a garage door opener. If such an option were chosen Larry said that residents would have to purchase their own remotes.

For everyone’s information Nancy Henson is getting ready for an operation on her back during this time also.

A poll is being created to see if residents favor buying a remote to operate the main gate.

Notes: Are you looking for a sweet, gentle boy who needs to find a very special home? Honey Bear may just be the fellow for you. Honey Bear is an 18 month old purebred blond chow who is stunningly beautiful. He and his brother were rescued from a Los Angeles shelter moments before they were going to be put down. His foster mother adopted both boys and Honey Bear grieved when his brother was placed in a forever home without him. We know he was abused in his past life because was terrified of people when he arrived. But he has made great progress and is learning to love being petted and brushed. We know that once he puts his trust into his very own human, the bond will be forever. At 18 months old, all things are possible. He enjoys the other dogs and cats in his foster home and is learning to play with toys and show his true puppy personality. If you are a gentle soul who can earn this boy’s trust, he will pay you back with total dedication and love. Won’t you please consider opening your heart and home for Honey Bear today 574-6208?

A Big Whoops Has ocurred!!!!

I knocked the code on this site silly while working on it and if you were tuned to it the green went all white and the comments disappeared.

Fortunately, I had made a Back up copy of the site a few days ago and was able to reload it. After a bunch of head scratching I think it is working all right again. If you see something that doesn't work let me know.

I have some problems with some of the links below but they are working. It seems to be cosmetic in nature.. Will let everyone know when it is back to 100%.

Back to Normal....9:53PM

Now that I am in to it.. might as well change everything.. Been meaning to for a long time... Look for changes in the next few days in the links area... under construction.
