May 1, 2007 -- Oregon became our nation’s 33rd state on Feb 14, 1859. It covers 96,003 miles and the capital is Salem.

AMONG the first Europeans to explore the territory that would become Oregon was James Cook in 1778. Meriwether Lewis and William Clark explored the territory on their famous Lewis and Clark Expedition (1804-1806)."
