SALEM -- State leaders reached an agreement Wednesday that will give the Oregon State Police money to return eight troopers to patrol duty soon, with more to come later.

Gov. Ted Kulongoski's office had said two weeks ago that it planned to wait until April to forward a $1.7 million request from the state police to the Legislature's Emergency Board. The board is a panel of legislators that meets to consider additional money for state agencies between legislative sessions."
