Toll booth - A Yaquina Head area aide gets a scare as trees tilt and earth cascades down

LORI TOBIAS
NEWPORT -- The first sign of trouble came when Paula Cline-Jones heard something cracking. She looked out the window of the tiny toll booth at the entrance of the Yaquina Head natural area and knew something wasn't right.
'The trees at the top of the hill were falling toward each other,' Cline-Jones recalled. 'Then I noticed a wedge of land coming away and sliding down from the top.'
At first, it was like watching slow-motion television, she said. Then the slow-moving slide began picking up speed, sweeping soil, sand and trees into its mass, and the 51-year-old visitors aide found herself looking for an escape."
