COMPUTER UPDATE FOR THE NEW COMPUTER LAB
RT
Jim Dodds is the technician handling the refurbishing and updating of our Georgia Pacific donated computers. Jim lives with his father here in the park. They will be moving soon to Montana as they have sold their home here at LVH. Jim also is running programs on each of the computers that check their condition before he puts them into service. He is doing all this for free. Georgia Pacific Donated the computers for free.
Jim has both good and bad news for us. There were 10 computers and 1 server computer in our gift. The server is not going to be usable for our application so we are sending it to the recycle bin. 2 of the computers so far have problems that make them to expensive to repair. We have decided to send them to the recycle bin too. Four of the computers have been tested and loaded with new programs and Windows 2000 operating system and are ready for us to use.
Jim is working on the remaining four and suggests we keep our fingers crossed. Also, there are some problems with some of the CD drives but we are not going to address those problems now as we can use them without that piece of equipment.
Meanwhile, we have ordered the equipment necessary to network our computers together and expect it to arrive by Monday. You can expect to see new computers showing up at the lab soon and old equipment being readied for raffle.
