Last week, Rachael in Northeast was offering a nearly full bottle of anti-fungal shampoo for dogs, cats and horses. Randie in Southeast sought a new home for a wicker trunk.

And so it goes on Freecycle Portland, a Web-based network of giving and receiving with nodes around the country.

The idea started in May 2003 in Tucson, Ariz. Organizers say the Portland group is the largest in the world, with more than 20,000 registered members."
