An email to Rob Thomas (Lincoln County Tax Collector)

Rob, (Sorry about the informality.. My son's name is also Rob Thomas),

I am Ron Thomas, a resident of Longview Hills Retirement Community in Newport. I run the local News website for the community. Recently, I have been getting disgruntled questions about the meteoric rise in property tax in our neighborhood with folks asking what can be done about this? As you may know being a retirement community and on a fixed income we feel an increase perhaps more sensitively than other folks. If you don't know I suppose that we can take solace in the fact that one day you will.

What we are requesting is that someone or even yourself come to a community meeting to explain how this sharp increase was arrived at to our residents. At that time we would ask if there isn't anything that can be done... If you would be willing to explain to the residents how they can defer their taxes until their demise or until they sell their property under Oregon Law that may help quite a few of them.

We can set up a meeting at our clubhouse any time to fit your schedule. Since we are retired we can come to morning, afternoon or evening meetings.

Respectfully,

--
Ron Thomas
