TURIN, Italy I t was an athlete's glory: to stand on the podium, an Olympic gold medal around her neck, her country's anthem ringing out through the speed skating oval at Salt Lake City.
Chris Witty felt joy, certainly, that day four years ago when she flew through 1,000 meters in a world record time that still stands. "
