The cameras at Mission and 25th streets SE captured 75 verified violations, according to statistics released by Salem police.
Cameras at Commercial and Marion streets NE, downtown next to the Marion Street Bridge, caught 37 verified violations.
Each of the tickets carries a $242 fine and the digital signature of Sgt. Russ Morris, who leads Salem's traffic control unit. He is the only police officer so far who has reviewed and approved violations caught by the cameras.
The first wave of red-light violators caught on camera is scheduled to appear in Salem Municipal Court on May 5, Court Administrator Dan Swinney said."

What Happened to my schedule?
As I sit here this morning gazing at my email I wonder how in the world I managed to arrive at this state of affairs? 35 emails all wanting me to do something... Holy Batman, where do I start?
Last night I watched as Jacky moved a chair into the clubhouse kitchen so she could rest in between chores. Her face as red as a beet and sweating like a waterfall... What has happened?
Jacky forgot to make posters and sign up sheets for the coming CERT breakfast this Saturday..She is in there doing it now.
Let's see I have a Dr appointment at 2:00 in Depot Bay. A lifeline lecture at the clubhouse at 1:00 and a Central Coast CERT board meeting at performing arts center at 3:00.. hmmm this is shaping up to be a problem.
My prescriptions at the VA are all expiring because my Dr. retired... Have to work on that.. only 5 pills left.
Need to shop for supplies for the CERT breakfast today.
Time to write up yesterday's CERT drill.
Cheryl at the City Hall called and left a message she needs to reschedule a meeting Wayne Hill and I are having with the City Manager, Mayor, Chief of Police, and Fire Chief because the City Attorney wants to be there now. We just wanted to tell them how the LVH CERT team works and suggest they develop the rest of the City along our model. They were impressed by our initial presentation and now are calling in other people to listen..
Jacky is in there working and has another chore list going ... I have to go...
I know, you are all going to say the standard comment... "Thank you for all you do..." . What really needs to be done though is a sharing of LVH tasks among all of you... .. If many share, much can be accomplished and the work is minimal. I want some of you younger folks to step forward and volunteer to take on the Social Club duties... Some of you that have been saying you are going to join the CERT team need to come on down and join in ... stop your promising and start your doing... Kitchen set up should be some folks, kitchen clean up another group, clubhouse event set up should be one group of volunteers and clubhouse clean up another. For to long these things fall to a very few (the same few)... we need more involvement from you.. How to do that? Why don't you email me with your suggestions or write a comment.. I will put your ideas on this site... Where can you take us? I am ready ... show me the way.

Clubhouse Problems
The clubhouse cleanliness and mail packages have become a problem. Now don't get your hackles up... I'm going to describe what I saw and what was pointed out to me by Larry Henson this morning... How this all came about.
Yesterday at the Social Club Meeting Wayde Dudley, our president, said he had been called and told the Clubhouse was left in a mess after the recent weekend dinners. When asked what the problem was Wayde said he didn't quite understand.. Now you may ask what is Ron Thomas' nose stuck into this for? The answer is Ron or Jacky Thomas sign up to reserve the clubhouse for all Social Club events for the entire year. So when the clubhouse is not cleaned up to specifications.. We get asked why not?
Today, I asked Larry Henson what was the problem exactly and asked him to show me what was wrong. He then took me on a tour pointing out exactly what was wrong...
Here is what was shown to me... The rug leading to the kitchen and in front of the counter had a lot of crumbs and food particles on the floor. The kitchen had trash piled up and the garbage sacks that it was in had leaked spotting the floor. Larry said he had moved a garbage container onto the outside deck and wants us to put our garbage in that from now on... and that should take care of that problem.
The Kitchen floor was spotted with juice spills in front of the sink counter. and all around the island. As you face the counter, the dishwasher on the left is the one Larry takes care of during the week. He rarely checks the other one but in this case he noted it was full and should have been put away by the users.
The above problems are easily taken care of and we would ask those cleaning up to be more vigilant going forward and we think that will cure the problems.
As to the idea that every Sunday the floor is vacuumed by the management ... That is not the case these days. No help is currently available but there is an ad out for help staff. In the interim we need to clean up after ourselves.
About the mail packages.... In the past mail was put on the pool tables and residents sorted out their packages. Recently however, the pool tables have been repaired to give a better action and more enjoyable game. This cost was significant. The technician that repaired the tables attributes part of their demise to the placing of packages on them over the years. So, in order to keep them in first class shape we are asked not to place anything on them.. Then, during the weekend the tables that had been set up for the packages were put away and packages put back on the pool tables...
Larry suggested maybe the packages could be put in the adjacent card room.. I don't know what the solution to this is.
We have heard it said that the Social Club really has active members that number around 50 and that the park has around 250 residents. That 200 residents really only care about getting their mail and living their life, doing their own thing and they don't necessarily care about these things. If you are in the 50 then accept some responsibility and police up after yourselves. If you are in the 50 and don't like the packages on the pool table then think of a solution and help implement it. If you are in the 200 this probably has no interest at all for you.

LIFELINE LECTURE

Lifeline, the community service that is a terrific fit for Seniors living alone will make a presentation at the clubhouse on Thursday, April 24th.
Lifeline works through Samaritan Community Hospital. I'm not exactly sure how it works and that's why you will see me there at the lecture.
Here is the way I've been told it works.... You sign up for a modest monthly fee. They give you a pushbutton pendant that goes around your neck. You wear it all the time you are at home... If you push the button a signal is sent to your telephone and it dials the Lifeline Service. The signal goes to an operator who has a list of phone numbers that you have given LifeLine. They then call those numbers until one answers. They tell your friend or relative you have sent an emergency signal. That person then (whom you have provided a key to your home) goes to your home and checks on you... If no one from your list answers LifeLine calls 911.
Why? Do you need this? The answer lies in your lifestyle.
If you are single, living alone, my personal opinion is you need this. If you are single and fall like Nancy Moore recently did and spent a couple hours crawling from her front porch to the telephone.. you need this.
If you are single and stand up and twist your ankle like Ruthanne Carson just did.. you need this .
If you became dizzy while sitting in your favorite livingroom chair away from your telephone like Charley Curry did... you need this.
If you are single and fall and can't get up... you need this.
Living in CA. my wife's Mom fell and broke her hip.. hours and hours she struggled to get to the phone.. Wish we had known about lifeline...
Now you children and grandchildren living out there and reading this... Is grandma or grandpa or Mom or Dad living at Longview Hills .. alone? Step up to the plate and make sure they are safe. Talk to them... Make sure they go to the lecture.. If you can, get them the service, It's a good deal and cheap peace of mind insurance.
Lifeline is on the internet... do a search, find it. I wrote this because a single lady asked Larry Henson if she could use the LVH office as her number to call for help.. Answer no because Oregon law does not allow him to enter her property as the landlord's agent.
Living here is not like living anywhere else you have lived, I'll wager. Over time you will know and be on speaking terms with everyone. Everyone, not just the people on either side of your home and the one across the street like where you came from. This place is special... If you have a single person nearby ask them to come to this presentation...

This website is really a blog (weblog)
The company that owns this free site is Google. Google owns Blogger ...the provider of our site. Anyone can own one or dozens of these sites for free. Recently, Blogger made large changes to how the code worked for a website... What they did is take away the need for needing to know html (hyper text machine language). Now you point and click at what you would like to have and make a choice from several options and then your code is installed automatically...
One new option is to give those that work on this site a chance to color all the boxes , titles, fonts and a variety of sections of the blog. It is very much like giving a grandchild a box of crayons and watching what they create. So from time to time you will see changes in these areas as we play with our crayons.
Want to learn how to make one of these? It is very simple and there are more than one of us who know how... I'm sure we could have a class.

Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York.
This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico. But as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York. The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost.
The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day.
The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as Sinko De Mayo.

Top this for a speeding ticket!
Two California Highway Patrol Officers were conducting speeding enforcement on I-15, just north of the Marine Corps Air Station at Miramar CA . One of the officers was using a hand held radar device to check speeding vehicles approaching the crest of a hill.
The officers were suddenly surprised when the radar gun began reading 300 miles per hour. The officer attempted to reset the radar gun, but it would not reset and then turned off.
Just then a deafening roar over the treetops revealed that the radar had in fact locked on to a USMC F/A-18 Hornet which was engaged in a low flying exercise near the location.
Back at the CHIPs Headquarters the Patrol Captain fired off a complaint to the USMC Base Commander.
The reply came back in true USMC style:
Thank you for your letter. We can now complete the file on this incident.
You may be interested to know that the tactical computer in the Hornet had detected the presence of, and subsequently locked on to, your hostile radar equipment and automatically sent a jamming signal back to it, which is why it shut down.
Furthermore, an Air-to-Ground missile aboard the fully armed aircraft had also automatically locked on to your equipment location.
Fortunately, the Marine Pilot flying the Hornet recognized the situation for what it was, quickly responded to the missile system alert status and was able to override the automated defense system before the missile was launched to destroy the hostile radar position.
The pilot also suggests you cover your mouths when cussing at them, since the video systems on these jets are very high tech. Sergeant Johnson, the officer holding the radar gun, should get his dentist to check his left rear molar. It appears the filling is loose. Also, the snap is broken on his holster.

Assyrian clay tablet points to 'Sodom and Gomorrah' asteroid | The Register: "The 'Planisphere' tablet (see pic) - inscribed around 700 BC - was unearthed by Henry Layard in the remains of the library of the Assyrian royal palace at Nineveh, close to modern-day Mosul, Iraq. It's a copy of the night diary of a Sumerian astronomer containing drawings of constellations and 'known constellation names', but it required modern computer tech to finally unravel its exact meaning.
Alan Bond, Managing Director of Reaction Engines Ltd and Mark Hempsell, Senior Lecturer in Astronautics at Bristol University, subjected the Planisphere to a programme which 'can simulate trajectories and reconstruct the night sky thousands of years ago'. They discovered that it described 'events in the sky before dawn on the 29 June 3123 BC', with half of it noting 'planet positions and cloud cover, the same as any other night'.
The other half, however, records an object 'large enough for its shape to be noted even though it is still in space' and tracks its trajectory relative to the stars, which 'to an error better than one degree is consistent with an impact at K�fels'."
