USGS Release: Earthquake, Tsunami Experts Gather in Seattle (4/16/2008 7:08:18 AM): "The National Earthquake Conference will be held in Seattle from April 22 - 26. Earthquake experts from around the nation will convene to discuss the latest research on earthquakes and the generation of tsunamis. Forty of the 50 states have some risk of earthquake, with the greatest risk found along the 'Ring of Fire,' that includes Alaska, Washington, Oregon and California.

The conference will also focus on tsunami hazards, offering attendees and the media an opportunity to hear, via webcast, from experts from Sumatra, Sri Lanka and Phuket, Thailand, that were catastrophically impacted by the Indian Ocean tsunami of December, 2004. Following the conference, there will be field trips, including one to view evidence of the damage from the Cascadia offshore earthquake of 1700 that created a tsunami waves from Canada to California and sank ships in Japan."
