Kelsey Boutin, 27, had just opened the 50 West Tavern and was alone in the bar around 6:15 a.m. when two men came in. The bar is at 935 Wallace Road NW.

She recognized one of the men immediately, as he'd tried a half-hour earlier to get in both the front and back doors only to find them locked.

Boutin had watched on a security monitor as the man, clad in white pants and a black shirt, tried the back door, then the front, with no luck.

'Then he hauled it all the way round to the back door and really pulled on it to open it, but it wasn't going,' Boutin said.

Now the man was in the bar with a Hispanic man clad in black. She asked how they were doing, and in response the man in white pants pulled a cloth up over his face."
