Newport News-Times: Fishermen invited to join in developing ocean observation network:
By Joel Gallob Of the News-Times
Oregon's fishermen were expressly invited to join in and participate with scientists, administrators and others in the development of NANOOS, the Northwest Association of Networked Ocean Observation Systems at a stakeholders meeting last week in Newport.

Halfway into the meeting, Lincoln County Commissioner and former commercial fisherman Terry Thompson noted there were 'only two fishermen in the room' - himself, and Ocean Policy Advisory Council Chairman Scott McMullen. That observation led to a discussion during which Dr. Anthony Baptista, the team leader for NANOOS, and Jan Newton, a scientist at the University of Washington and a member of the NANOOS Steering Committee, urged everyone present to get out the Rolodexes, call their fisherman friends and invite them to participate in the NANOOS project."
