Computer news update

Today Charter Cable installed high speed internet in the clubhouse. They installed it in Larry Henson’s office. The cable modem is a commercial modem.

Here is what is going to happen. Mr. Friterer, Park Managing Owner, has agreed to let us hook a router to it which is quite generous because that service is costing him $50 a month and the residents get to use it for free.. That router will also be in Larry’s office. We will be wiring cable from the router in Larry’s office to an 8 port switch in the computer lab. This switch has an individual port on it for each computer in the lab which in turn will be wired to the switch.

Providing we configure all the components properly every computer in the lab will then be able to go on the internet using hi-speed Charter Cable. Then our classes will start to include how to use the internet.

We anticipate no technical problems. Labor may take awhile to round up. There is one significant problem that we will be fixing... The computers will be locked out of X-rated sites. Here is why.... A young grandchild was found on a site such as this in the past because he followed the back history of where someone had been surfing on the internet on a clubhouse computer. So we are putting controls in to stop that. If that is your thing then you can buy a computer at WalMart for around $400 and surf at home.
