Newport News-Times: Learn about forest thinning on this field trip:

Salmon Drift Creek Watershed Council is sponsoring a field trip beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 8, to raise awareness of pre-commercial forest thinning projects. Forest thinning has been a controversial topic in many National Forests.

Rangers from Hebo Ranger District Siuslaw National Forest will lead the trip. The rangers will discuss current strategies and practices and visit several sites. The trip will involve some hiking and traverse rough ground to view all the project sites.

The group will car pool for the trip. For information and to reserve a place on the trip (the number will be limited) phone 994-8427 or 994-9682.
