Please Remember

CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) TEAM TRAINING for the new class starts Thursday at 5:30PM tommorow at Newport City Hall.

We will have a few new folks from Longview Hills attending. That is really great news for our little community. Our team is woefully under staffed and we need all the new extra hands we can get. If you have an interest in lending a hand won't you come down to the City Hall and listen this first night? You do not have to commit to anything. Gender is not a factor we work well as a team and use the best from everyone.

Most of us that have completed the training have weekly drills at the Clubhouse on Wednesdays for an hour. You are all welcome to come and observe and participate. We currently are training in operations dealing with triage, communications and evacuation. The community Emergency Plan is shaping up as we get a handle on what we will be needing. Every LVH CERT Member has been RED CROSS certified in First Aid, CPR and AED operation.

CERT is not just about tsunami's we have helped the Fire Dept and Police Dept in other operations for Newport where they had run short handed before they can now use the CERT team to free up the professionals to do more of what they are trained to do.

Still, each individual has the responsibility of preparing their own neighborhoods for all manner of disaster. CERT operates under Federal FEMA guidelines and is sponsored and trained locally by the city Fire and Police Deptartments.
