Edison's light bulb could be endangered - USATODAY.com

We brought this article back to the top of the page because Ruthanne made an interesting comment and we thought you all might read it and weigh in with your 2cents.

Ron says:
If you use 50% less energy for lighting you will decrease your electric bill, buy bulbs less often and help reduce dependence on the middle east for energy. One problem, and we are looking at solutions now.... It is not possible to dim fluorescents with a regular dimmer switch found in most homes today. I'll report on this later. Also, you use less power because fluorescents put out way more light per watt than incandescent lights. For instance a 15 watt fluorescent light put out about what a 60 watt incandescent would. They do not put out a harsh white light like they used to.. after about 10 seconds of warm up they put out the same orangish white that you are used to.

Edison's light bulb could be endangered - USATODAY.com: "And Thursday, New Jersey Assemblyman Larry Chatzidakis introduced a bill that calls for the state to switch to fluorescent lighting in government buildings over the next three years.

'The light bulb was invented a long time ago and a lot of things have changed since then,' said Chatzidakis, a Republican from Burlington. 'I obviously respect the memory of Thomas Edison, but what we're looking at here is using less energy.'"
