Red Cross First Aid Class
Today found a number of residents from around Lincoln County being trained by an all day class at the Longview Hills Clubhouse taught by Oregon State Trooper Carla Urbigkeit. The LVH CERT team and the Oregon State Police Volunteers from within Longview Hills made up a large percentage of the class. 7 Cert team members and 5 OSP members are now certified in Red Cross CPR, 1st Aid and AEM...
We do not know of anybody from here that has ever been trained and certified to operate an AEM machine before this time. What you should know as a park resident is a little about what the acronym AEM means to you.
- AUTOMATED
- EXTERNAL
- DEFIBRILLATOR
That’s right! If we had one of these machines those of us certified to do so, could now apply it to a resident along with CPR to save a life. We could do it even before the paramedics and fire department arrive in some circumstances. In case of a major disaster where rescue agencies are delayed for a long time this machine could mean the difference between life and death.
First came the training and now we turn to the community and ask if there are those among you that are connected to relatives or friends that might help the community buy or get one at a reduced rate? Our instructor thought they could run from $700 to $5000 depending on who we purchased them from. Naturally, as a senior myself, I’m thinking free is a mighty good deal but I live with one foot grounded in the real world so we are asking you to contact those that might help and see what you can find out.
