I got home to my Brooklyn brownstone the other night to find a 12-foot dogwood tree, its boulder-size root ball wrapped in burlap, parked on the pavement in front of my door. Three landscapers groaned and sweated as they wrestled the tree's dead weight through the narrow halls of my house, bending the branches to fit through doorways, until they finally reached the backyard."
