"In Seuss room, sleep settles score with Poe" | The Register-Guard | Eugene, Oregon: "NEWPORT — Two years ago, when asked to speak about book writing to the Willamette Writers’ Oregon Coast chapter, I was offered a room at the Sylvia Beach Hotel.
For the unfamiliar, it’s a four-story, nearly century-old hotel on a bluff at Nye Beach. And is distinguished by its 22 rooms decorated in the spirit of 22 authors.
Feeling adventurous, I chose the room of Edgar Allan Poe, he of the neurotic obsession with mystery, death and ravens.
I confess, the pendulum above the bed with the blood-red covers was a tad unsettling, as was the stuffed raven. A storm tattered the window with rain. Just before retiring, I opened the guest book."
