Airplane Fuel...

Ron Thomas

Last night I watched a program on TV (I'm terible at names) where the owner of Virgin Airlines was interviewed and he had a cool suggestion that I think everyone should know. The topic was the amount of fuel burned before take off and after landing by our huge jet liners. He said 5000lbs of fuel is wasted doing these activities.

What he said next was the cool part. ...... Why not tow the taking off planes to the runway and the landing planes to their debarkation points? I know a little about jet engines and when they are turned on they ramp upto speed and are fully ready to go in a couple of minutes. The fuel savings would be tremendous and the pollution would also go down.

That translates into using less fuel in a significant amount for the world economy and for world wide pollution.
