CAPE CANAVERAL — NASA will stretch out the time shuttles can remain docked at the International Space Station, significantly increasing the amount of work that can be done during visits to the outpost.

Made possible by a new power-transfer system, the capability could play a key role in how much station construction work NASA can complete before the agency retires its three-orbiter shuttle fleet in 2010."
