Prime time for tide-pooling | StatesmanJournal.com | Statesman Journal: "Thursday's minus-2.64 foot tide is at 9:03 a.m. at Newport.

'Usually if it's a half-decent tide, a negative tide, you'll start seeing stuff about two hours before and extends to about two hours after,' said Jay Moeller, the chief park ranger at the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area just north of Newport.

Yaquina Head features one of the better areas for tide pools, Cobble Beach, for those willing to take the 130 or so stairs to get down to it, Moeller said."
