"Newport vies as site for NOAA operations" | The Register-Guard | Eugene, Oregon: "NEWPORT — Within minutes, ships docked in Yaquina Bay can make their way out into the open ocean, and it’s that quality that makes this spot a prime location for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Marine Operations Center, officials with the Port of Newport say.
In coming weeks, the port will present a detailed version of that case to the federal agency, with the hope that NOAA will decide to relocate six research vessels and 75 administrative positions from the Seattle area to Newport, a move that could bring up to $19 million in economic benefits to the Oregon Coast."
