The expansion of a swelling bulge near South Sister volcano appears to be slowing.

Scientists with the U.S. Geological Survey reported Wednesday that measurements taken during the past year indicate only a slight increase in uplift of a roughly 150-square-mile area three miles west of the mountain. The center of the bulge moved upward by about half its average yearly rate of 1 inch since it began forming in 1997."
