Last night at the Chinook Winds Casino a few of us got to go back in times with Bobby Vinton's performance. We can say he is a entertainer, along with his daughter and son he put on one great show. I looked up to see how old he is and he was born back in 1935, stated he has been in music almost his whole life.

AAA offers online help on Medicare Part D

AAA offers online help on Medicare Part D: "WASHINGTON, DC, United States (UPI) -- The American Automobile Association is offering an online system to help seniors deal with costs relating to the Medicare prescription drug plan.

With the approach of the May 15 deadline for enrolling in the plan, the AAA calculator will help do a cost comparison for those with no prescription coverage or those opting for Medicare plan, reports the Orlando (Fla.) Business Sentinel.

The calculator will ask questions about current prescription costs and generate a comparison of current prescription drug spending with the standard Medicare Prescription Drug Plan.

Online users can reach the Medicare Part D calculator at aaa.com/prescriptions."

Every spring, the local bear population comes out of hibernation looking for a meal after a long sleep. Occasionally, they wander into populated areas to find food that might be left available - any food. These are not tame animals and they are potentially dangerous.

GARDINER, Ore. (AP) -- Demolitions experts will implode the last major structure of the International Paper mill in this Douglas County coastal town Saturday, the last chapter for what once was the town's largest employer.

Through implosion, strategically placed explosives make structures drop in place.

The mill was built in 1964 and once had 300 employees. It closed in 1998.

Maryland-based Controlled Demolition will implode the 12-story portion of the mill, the largest remaining part of facility.

Along with polishing the brass and metalwork and cleaning and drying out the lines, the ship has also been repainted in time for this weekend's Loyalty Day and Seafair Festival activities. At 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Coast Guard Station Yaquina Bay will host a 50th birthday party for the Victory, which is the oldest motor lifeboat in the history of the Coast Guard.

Poll Results...

The question dealt with whether residents would buy a gate remote control for their personal use. Here are the results:

• 38 people will not buy an opener     (54% of the vote)


• 15 residents will buy one opener            (21% of the vote)


• 11 residents will buy two openers     (16% of the vote)


• 5 residents will buy three openers     (7% of the vote)


• 1 resident said they would buy 5 openers ( I think we would have to throw this vote out.)

15 + 22 +15=52 openers.

Now that does not take into consideration those that could not vote for one reason or another. But, I think the results are good enough to give the Social Club an idea on how to discuss the question at the next meeting.

More interesting for me is the number of residents participating in the poll. When we first tried polling on the website a few years ago we would get 5 or 6 votes. This poll showed 38+15+11+5+1=70 votes. The argument then was that nobody had a computer and if they did they used it rarely. Something has changed for the better me thinks.

Our poll may be a viable tool for showing the direction of neighborhood opinion. I doubt we could say that it is all inclusive for a number of reasons. One being we have a wide reading audience that does not include all park residents which means people not involved with the poll may think it funny to vote. On the other hand the poll does recognize when a computer address has voted once and will not let it vote again.

I think I can infer from the results more folks are using their computer which could mean they are understanding it better. I like that notion.

At he end of the bridge is the end of the trail. You get to walk out over this salt water marsh and when the tide is in there are many birds to see.

"WILLS or TRUST.....DO YOU HAVE ONE?"

On May 9th at our Longview Hills Club House there will be a lawyer speaking to us about making out Living Wills and Trust. If you have ever heard of those who have passed on, did not leave a will or a trust and what their love ones had to go though, then there has been times that the state you live in gets it all when there was no will or trust on record. So if you are concerned and want to learn more, then be at the Club House at 2p.m. on the 9th of May. See you there!

"NEED YOUR HELP.....EASY WORK....GREAT PAY"

As most residents know we here a Longview Hills have been having a wonderful program called the Neighborhood Watch Patrol. Like the above title stated, easy work and great pay. The work is just putting a set of the signs on your vehicle for one month, while you are driving around the Newport general area. (They do not harm your vehicles paint) We now have three sets of these signs, where as we use to only have one. The more these signs are seen out in the community by people, the more they know we have residents keeping their eyes open for any unwanted people here on the hill. I can say it does make a difference and I have had people ask about he sign on my vehicle and makes heads turn. We don't want what happen years back doing Thanksgiving, do we? Now the pay is having the feeling of being safe here at Longview Hills. There is a sign up sheet at the Club House for you to sign up to get involved with keeping YOUR Community safe day in and day out, It's up to all of us. If you have any questions about this program, please call Charles Burke or Ron Thomas. You would only have the sign for one month, and the more that sign up, the less times you would have it again over the year. Thank you!

Just a reminder that on Friday, May 5th starting with happy hour from 5p.m. to 6p.m. the Longview Residents will get together at our Club House to help celebrate Cinco De Mayo day. Then starting at 6p.m. there will be a Potluck Dinner. Be sure to bring any type of mexican food to share with others. Welcome sight.. The ocean below.. Here in the middle of nowhere on a ridge barely wide enough for this road an electrical transformer and a telephone junction box.

A glimpse of civilization.. The hill that slopes down to the lighthouse. The one that Izzy's is built on.

The undergrowth is so dense that there were only 2 places you could see any of LVH.

Though you may have to look hard at the center of this picture to see it... That's the communication tower atop the far hill.
