The suspect is a white male about 30 or 40 years old, six feet tall wearing an Alpinestar brand motorcycle jacket, full face mask motorcycle helmet with mirrored visor and two large white stripes down the center, dark jeans and tennis shoes. He left in a dark colored SUV with license plates that have blue background, possibly Oregon Crate Lake plate."

Several people that are interested in the Alaska cruise have mentioned to Dee an and I that they are hesitant about making a reservation because the time is so far out and they are afraid of loosing there deposit. I have some information that you can pass on in the blog.

1. The deposit is fully refundable up until 90 days before sailing when full payment is required. After that some penalties are incurred.

2. The whole purpose of booking rooms early is the ability to pretty much pick the room you want, on the side of the ship you want, in the location (front, mid, rear) of the ship. Want to be near an elevator?, request the one you want. If it's not listed, call the agent.

3. Deposit is only $250.00 per person or $500.00 per cabin.

4. If possible illness is a concern, here again, your deposit is fully refundable (see no.1. above)

You have mentioned in the past that you miss the computer discussion we used to do on Tuesdays (I think) at the clubhouse. It would be great to revisit having a day (once a week, every other week, or just once a month) where we could get together with others to share things we have learned or ask questions about issues. Like right now, I have questions about what advantage Google Voice may hold. Other questions might be what is the best internet provider. Such a meeting may include other "tech" questions or issues.

For the folks that don't recall those meetings they were a get together of computer interested people that met with their laptop computers at the clubhouse where we would discuss ideas and demonstrate how to do stuff that we were interested in that day. There was no time limit, you left when you felt like it... sort of a friendly group meeting with not much structure. You did not have to come unless you wanted to. If you can send an email on your computer, that is all you have to do to publish an article on this web page! Seriously, if you have something to say about what you have seen in the park or have a hobby that is interesting you just write an email to a special address I give you and it will instantly publish right here on the website from anywhere in the world.. You could email the site while you are on vacation and tell us about it. If you have pictures ... there is a way for us to get them on also.

AS I age... getting around to all the newsworthy happenings here is more than I want to do... Keeping the website technically in good operation is my bag.

There are some basic guidelines:

• Obey the Golden Rule. (No trash talk about neighbors)
• Stay clear of Party Politics. (talk about impact of new laws allowed... Impact of disasters like the oil spill are ok. Just try to stay away from biting at Republicans, Democrats, Tea Party, Independents and Green Party folks. You aren't going to change anybody's mind by sniping at each other.

• You write when and often and about what you like.. No assignments.

Let's talk about Google Voice and how it may be useful to you as a senior. First, you need to know it meets the highest criteria for seniors... and that is, It's free.

Now what it can do for you...

Those of you who have gmail or hotmail accounts know that you will never have to change your email address ever again. It is yours no matter what internet provider you use or where you move to...an address for a lifetime. That is because it is not located at an internet service provider but is stored on the web. The same is true with a google voice phone number... It stays with you for life no matter if you move or change cell phone providers or add new phones.

Here is how it does that.....

You get a google account then you pick your new google phone number from a list of numbers they show you based on your postal zip code. That means you g number is a local number so it is good for local calls from your community.

With your new number in hand you find that it now has your personal webpage. This page has a number of choices that you set up. I like, the free long distance feature anywhere in the USA that you can enable for one and so I check it. Next, you enter all the phone numbers that you currently have and then pick how you want those phones to react when your new g number is called. I entered our home phone number and our cell phone number and check ring both phones when the g number is called. That way (provided the cell is on) if we are out and about we can receive the call or if we are at home we now can get the call. I also check the box that says sms... this allows text messages to be sent to my computer where they are recorded in my gmail account. While there I check the answering machine and select TRANSCRIBE now all messages are transcribed and set to my gmail where they can be read or played back.

Suppose we move and change home phones and cell phones? We just add our new numbers and select the choices for them and delete the old ones but our gphone number stays the same... No more sending out new numbers to everyone.

There are a whole slew of other features to add but I haven't read up on them yet but here is one you may need to know about... Overseas calls are generally 2 cents a minute. Just click the title above to learn more about google voice.

Let me tell you about ROKU ....

You may have heard you can watch movies and many of the current and past episodes of your favorite and past TV shows by streaming them from your computer to your much larger TV screen with no commercials? It's true! I do it every night with a ROKU converter box. Also available is the ability to stream major league sports.

2 other neighbors do it also. Bobby and Carmen Dean and DEE Shimek as well. Bobby uses a Play Station 2 box to convert signals from computer to TV signals and Dee uses a ROKU box like me.

The three of us subscribe to Netflix which in turn allows us to stream thousands of shows from them, through the internet free with our regular Netflix subscription.

EZ to hook up but you need:

1. A ROKU conversion box and cable $80 from Amazon.com
2. Probably an ethernet cable (connects Roku to your computer)
3. The cheapest subscription t0 Netflix $8 a month.
4. A computer modem ($30)

Assemble that stuff and you should be up and running in about 10 minutes. Ask Dee or Bobby and even me if you want to know more.

The Corvallis Gazette-Times reports that 76-year-old Ben Sebastiani, of Waldport, is seeking $20,000 in economic damages and $250,000 for pain and suffering, plus legal fees.
The Benton County Circuit Court lawsuit alleges Sebastiani didn't know about the wire from the 2007 triple bypass operation until he sought treatment a year later for another medical problem. He says the doctor then pulled the insulated copper wire from his chest.
Spokeswoman Jennifer Nitson says the Corvallis hospital has no comment on the lawsuit."

A married couple went to the hospital to have their
baby delivered. Upon their arrival, the doctor said that
the hospital was testing an amazing new high-tech machine that
would transfer a portion of the mother's labor pain to the baby's
father. He asked if they were interested, Both said they were very
much in favor of it.

The doctor set the pain transfer to 10 percent for
starters, explaining that even 10 percent was probably more pain
than the father had ever experienced before. But as the
labor progressed, the husband felt fine and asked the doctor to
go ahead and kick it up a notch.

The doctor then adjusted the machine to 20 percent
pain transfer. The husband was still feeling fine. The doctor then
checked the husband's blood pressure and was amazed at how well he
was doing.

At this point they decided to try for 50 percent. The
husband continued to feel quite well. Since the pain transfer was
obviously helping the wife considerably, the husband encouraged the
doctor to transfer ALL the pain to him. The wife delivered a healthy baby
with virtually no pain, and the husband had experienced none. She and her
husband were ecstatic.

When they got home they found the milkman dead on the
porch.

There is, in our community, a lot going on all the time. At any one time it can be a lot like High School days and sometimes Jr. High. Interactions between people, groups and individuals can be interesting and frustrating at the same time.

I suppose what makes it a neat place to live is all the interaction... the good and the bad. The toxic behavior mixed with selflessness and everything n between. Can anything be done about the negative things? Are there things that will raise the tide and float everyone's boat higher? I suppose there is. Doing something about issues seems to always crunch somebody's toes and make others happy at the same time. What a deal that is! Can we talk about specific behaviors in a non judgmental way that may open the eyes of those meant to see without hurting them?

Would it be possible to write in a generalized way about a behavior that is bugging folks without upsetting the target person(s)? To write such an article would first make everyone including the offender wonder if the article was written about them. Paranoid? Well it could be and that would lead to even more strain. The writer would have to be someone that has an impeccable reputation for everyone to agree that what is written is not a personal attack but an effort to point out a problem. But who among us has such a rep.?

Some notable issues in the community in the past and probably now to, that many are aware of include folks that have lost their ability to care for themselves but are unaware of their plight. What to do? What about people that we know have become really bad at something but are unaware of it? For instance, do we know of people whose driving skills have deteriorated but they are holding to the notion that they are a good driver? What to do? People who are taking new meds that are unaware that their personalities have taken a turn for the worse. What to do? People who are fiercely independent but are increasingly becoming more and more infirm and refuse help even to the point of falling down and refusing help to get up. What to do? Folks that have been told they have not much time left and we all shrink from visiting with them? What to do? What about the folks that create a yard that brings the value of the homes around it down? What to do?

I have seen those that want to help go and help shop, feed, clean, run errands and many other unselfish acts. Still I wonder what can be done for those many other things that need attention? Even in a community south of here I know of an organization that was keyed to emergency response and neighbors who responded to a neighbors distress were threatened by a law suit. What to do indeed?

the first part of the quote was taken off a tatoo of a marine we took care of... a quad amputee... it was a very somber moment... but the tattoo said it all...I only added to it.

We the unbeloved, do the unthinkable for the ungrateful. Hero's do Exist. Many of whom have fought before us and have died for us. We remember all, we cherish all. And to those of you who don't even know what Memorial Day is or who it celebrates in remembrance then get the hell out of my country. Please remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice and are sacrificing every day over here for a better tomorrow!
