Three people flagged down a Newport Police Officer around 1:15 p.m.on Feb. 20 as he pulled into the police station and asked him where they could could rid of explosives.
The officer wasn't sure if there was a local option, but he asked what type of explosives.
Two World War II era grenades, they told him.

California Bar B Q's
Hey!
Do you guys remember the Bar B Q's every Saturday and Sunday up and down the coast of California... Ventura, Santa Barbra, Pismo and North... In Bakersfield?
Bob Dean and I got to reminiscing about that. Guess what? Bobby used to do that Bar B Q thing with tri-tip for his company picnic every year (100 people)... He even has the deluxe smoker with the automatic wood feed to give optimum smoke.... I said, "That would be a real money maker for the Social Club Treasury". Bobby agreed.
In fact, Bob did more than agree. He purchased two tri-tips and smoked them in front of his garage. It took about 3 hours to do them both. I can only imagine the agony that brought his neighbors. So, you think you are a bar b q champ? Or maybe you would like to see a master prepare and smoke this wonder? Bob is going to have a trial run on this operation this summer... He is going to need help... Or maybe you can show him how it is really done? Regardless, this may become a bimonthly event if you support it.
I did my part ... Bob asked me to try a tritip sandwich from the latest bunch... It would make a cannibal out of the most dedicated vegetarian... He cut it in half so I could share it with Jacky... It never made it home...brrrp!
Fair warning... he intends to smoke the meat on the clubhouse patio and.....put a fan behind it so the smoke will blow over the entire community... If you don't buy a sandwich you will just have to suffer.

Thought you would like to know.... In a previous post we appealed to you for help ... Asked for some to come forward and help folks that can't change a light bulb anymore and other small chores ... Small tasks but just beyond physical capabilities... Remember? Larry Henson made an appeal through me? Well 3 did come forward ... Same old 3... Could have told you before who they would be.... We have approximately 265 residents.. About 65 are elderly single ladies. If you should experience a change of heart please let Larry Henson (manager) know you will help when you can.

New Television in the Clubhouse!
Gloria Mazzeo donated a TV to the clubhouse. It's a beauty. Very Large and clear. It has been hooked up and the VCR and TV channels work like a champ. However, the DVD does not work at this time... We are working on it. The system also has surround sound which is not hooked up...working on it...Thank you Gloria for your generosity... I'm sure there will be many good times and fun ahead for the park.
This TV was extremely heavy and so was the old one. Both were moved by the 5 men in the park who we count on to help with so many things and most of you never know just who they are. You see the new item in place and start using it without thinking much about who the people were behind the scenes. They never ask for kudos from the rest of us and would probably be embarrassed to receive them but, it is fitting that you all know who they are and thank them the next time you see them in passing.... By then they will have done another couple of projects that you may never hear about I'm sure. Our community is blessed to have Wayne Hill, Wayde Dudley, Bill Furgason, Frank Stout and Jim Rose. They are our treasure.... Praise them a lot.
Bobby Dean is already thinking about the Sports night at the clubhouse... Guys gather your beer and we will be making hot dogs and chips. Maybe even peanuts to shuck and throw on the floor....
Jacky Thomas is thinking Chick Flick night..... in full surround sound...
I would like to see Tom Cruise in Top Gun fly off the carrier in surround sound... a guy movie.
John Spangler is excited about the many videos the Fishing Club has that they can now watch at meetings.
Phun! Phun! Coming to a clubhouse near you soon.
Project needed to make this even better. Industrial strength casters to move this big boy around. Anybody up for that?

out a form on the website, someone might see the information you send to

received a call from a lady in the park who is in need of someone to help her with little things in the house. she cannot climb on a ladder to change light bulbs or lift the hood to her car etc.
at one time there was a group of men who would help people living in LVH out with things like this, is the group still in operation?

Folks there used to be a group that did this. Now they have grown older or passed on and can't do this anymore. We rely on the influx of younger people to take the places of these heroes. Would you volunteer to be in such a group? The pay is awful... $0 but the light in the eyes of those helped is pretty darn neat. Just tell Larry you would like to help...

Oregon Shakes!
On March 9th at the clubhouse ...10am we will have a presentation of Oregon Shakes by a scientist.
Kay Wyatt is a local geophysicist that has founded the Oregon Shakes program dedicated to teaching Lincoln County residents and schools about the effects of a catastrophic earthquake on our environment.
She usually brings seismographs so you can actually see what the earth is upto. Kay is a member of Central Coast CERT and volunteers localy to raise awareness levels before a disaster.
The LVH CERT Team is presenting the program but we would like to stress that we are not out to recruit anybody... We just want you to come, munch popcorn, and drink coffee and enjoy yourself.

Fwd: LVH Book Club
Hi Ron,
Ginger would like to post a short article to the web site inviting anyone in the park to join the newly formed book club that was established earlier this month. Ten women and one man, Charlie Currey, gathered at the clubhouse for the purpose of starting the club. If anyone is interested in joining the club, the next meeting will be on Monday, March 9, 2009 at 7:00 pm. It was decided to hold the meetings on the second Monday of every month at 7:00 pm.
The first book selected for this month is "Stubborn Twig" by Lauren Kessler, an Oregonian author. The story is about three generations in the life of a Japanese American Family to include their internment during WWII.
"Salt in our Blood" by Michele Longo Eder, a Newport resident known to many, was then selected for the month of April. Michele's father, Joe Longo, was a resident here in the park and an avid fly fisherman. The LVH Fishing club honors his memory and the values he stood for by each year presenting a plaque in his name to the club member that has excelled in his or her service to the club and our community. Michele is an attorney and the wife of a local fisherman. "In 2000 Michele Longo Eder began a journal to record what daily life was like for her while her husband and sons were out commercial fishing. But personal tragedy struck just before Christmas 2001. This book is an offer of healing to her family, her community and to fishing families everywhere." Ginger and I have both read the book and found it to be excellent.

Time is Relentless...
Time and health... Something we all could use more of..
It seems as your time goes forward your health slowly inches backward. In this community you become acutely aware of this.. Not so much in a traditonal neighborhood where there are children and younger adults.
Time has come for newer and mostly younger residents in our little community to take on the mantle of leadership in community activities. I watch our older citizens enjoying a social gathering at the clubhouse and wonder about the dynamics of various groups... The old timers eventually move from committees and leaders to enjoying their community as ordinary citizens and the younger folks take up the positions of leadership and work and move forward. So it has been, and hopefully will be into the future.
Sometimes the community experiences a void as one group of leaders move out and none replace them. It has happened here and probably will again. After a time someone will ask, "Why don't we do this or that?" Then we are off to the races as new interactions take hold and new and modified old ideas come forward.
This time is coming to LVH again as the Social Club gears up to find community leaders for next year's officers. Every year we experience this and every year not many want to volunteer. This year has found me slowing down health wise and as a result many of my activities have not been done as well as I had wished. Jacky too has got a case of the "tireds". We aren't bailing out but we are asking more of you to consider helping.. We may not be doing a lot of the things we have always done but will still help when we can...
I look to past experience and cite here Betty Hanus.. She has been with the Social Club for about 14 years and has helped all that time and volunteered at the aquarium too. How long can she give herself away? I don't know but I suspect less. So it is with everyone of us.
Attend meetings, plan activities and serve your community .. a good thing to do.
