Add a still or animated picture to an Outlook Email
Add a picture to an HTML message
1. With the HTML message open, position the insertion point within the message body.
2. On the Insert menu, click Picture.
3. In the Picture source box, type the path to an image on your hard drive, type a URL (address) to an image on the Internet, or click Browse if you need to locate an image. You can use pictures in a variety of formats, including GIF and JPEG.
Specify any other options you want. For Help on an option, click the question mark, and then click the option.
You can change the settings after closing the dialog box. Just click the picture to select it, and then on the Insert menu, click Picture. Or, right-click the picture, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu. Change the settings as necessary.
Sending pictures stored on the Internet vs. locally
Depending on where the original picture is stored, Outlook can send a copy of the picture as part of the message or it can include a pointer to the picture. If you enter a path to a picture that's located on your hard disk or on a network, Outlook will automatically store a copy of the picture with the message. That's because the recipients most likely won't have access to these locations, so a pointer wouldn't work for them. However, if you specify a path to a picture that's located on the Internet, Outlook automatically includes a pointer to the picture. That's because your recipients could have access to the Internet and because sending a pointer keeps the message size down. Sending a picture with the message can increase the size of the message significantly and, therefore, slow down the time it takes to send and receive the message.
If your recipients don't have access to the Internet location that the message points to, they'll either see a red X in place of the picture or the alternate text— if you specified any— in the Picture dialog box. If you want, you can send a copy of Internet pictures with the message instead of sending a pointer.
Send a picture stored on the Internet with a message
On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Mail Format tab.
Do one of the following:
If you're using Outlook in the Corporate or Workgroup configuration, select the Send pictures from the Internet check box.
If you're using Outlook in the Internet Only configuration, click Settings, and then select the Send pictures from the Internet with messages check box.
Besides adding pictures, the HTML message format also lets you enhance messages using special designs, formatted text, or a structured layout. For more information, read Create stylish and decorative e-mail in Outlook using HTML.
Note While many popular e-mail programs besides Outlook 2000— such as Outlook 98, Outlook Express 4.0, Eudora 4.0, and Netscape Messenger 4.0— understand HTML messages, some do not. For more information about sending HTML messages, read Choose the best Outlook message format for a recipient.

The Pastor and His Cat
Dwight Nelson recently told a true story about the pastor of his church.
He had a kitten that climbed up a tree in his backyard and then was afraid to come down. The pastor coaxed, offered warm milk, etc. The kitty would not come down. The tree was not sturdy enough to climb, so the pastor decided that if he tied a rope to his car and drove away so that the tree bent down, he could then reach up and get the kitten. He did all this, checking his progress in the car frequently, then figured if he went just a little bit further, the tree would be bent sufficiently for him to reach the kitten. But as he moved a little further forward, the rope broke. The tree went "boing!" and the kitten instantly sailed through the air - out of sight.
The pastor felt terrible. He walked all over the neighborhood asking people if they'd seen a little kitten. No. Nobody had seen a stray kitten. So he prayed, "Lord, I just commit this kitten to your keeping," and went on about his business. A few days later he was at the grocery store and met one of his church members. He happened to look into her shopping cart and was amazed to see cat food. Now this woman was a cat hater and everyone knew it, so he asked her, "Why are you buying cat food when you hate cats so much?" She replied, "You won't believe this," and told him how her little girl had been begging her for a cat, but she kept refusing. Then a few days before, the child had begged again, so the Mom finally told her little girl, "Well if God gives you a cat, I'll let you keep it?" (Can you see where this is heading?)
She told the pastor, "I watched my child go out in the yard, get on her knees, and ask God for a cat. And really, Pastor, you won't believe this, but I saw it with my own eyes. A kitten suddenly came flying out of the blue sky, with its paws outspread, and landed right in front of her." Never underestimate the Power of God and what may appear to be breaking on one end, is answering prayer on another.

THE REALM OF THE LASERWANDS
THE REALM OF THE LASERWANDS
Clear Diamantina Laserwand
Laserwands are recognized by their long, slim shape.
The facets are narrow and the long edges run almost perpendiculary to the tip.
Towards the base, these crystals are often somewhat wider.
Laser rods usually consist of clear or milky quartz.
Smoke quartz or citrine are very rare laser crystals.
Laserwands are very strong and dynamic crystals.
The easily felt energy flow of these healing stones has a tremendous speed
and is in the form of a spiral.
This intensise light beam, in form of a spiral, can be useful in many ways.
The longer the laser crystal, the higher the energy.
With the tip of small lasers, meridians can be marked and acupuncture
points activated. Large laserwands should never be pointed toward humans.
Instead, hold the base of the laser rod over concerned area.
The base of the crystal should be either crystallized or completely heald.
As a meditation stone the laser is an absolute healing crystal;
it is able to activated the chakras and in particular to open the crown chakra,
with its dynamic light beam.
These crystals are true bearer of light, if one has ajusted to them,
and can lead to higher energetic levels.
in aural surgery.
Old patterns and disturbing structures can be eliminated by this "nonviolent" surgery.
All burden can be sucked off this way from soul, spirit and body.
On the physical level even disharmonic molecules
and cells can be transformed.

That Explains It
That little "a" with a circle curling around it that is found in email addresses is most commonly referred to as the "at" symbol.
Surprisingly though, there is no official, universal name for this sign. There are dozens of strange terms to describe the @ symbol.
Several languages use words that associate the shape of the symbol with some type of animal.
For instance, some quirky names for the @ symbol include:- apenstaartje - Dutch for "monkey's tail"
- snabel - Danish for "elephant's trunk"
- kissanhnta - Finnish for "cat's tail"
- klammeraffe - German for "hanging monkey"
- papaki - Greek for "little duck"
- kukac - Hungarian for "worm"
- dalphaengi - Korean for "snail"
- grisehale - Norwegian for "pig's tail"
- sobachka - Russian for "little dog"
Before it became the standard symbol for electronic mail, the @ symbol was used to represent the cost or weight of something. For instance, if you purchased 6 apples, you might write it as 6 apples @ $1.10 each.
With the introduction of e-mail came the popularity of the @ symbol. The @ symbol or the "at sign" separates a person's online user name from his mail server address. For instance, joe@uselessknowledge.com. Its widespread use on the Internet made it necessary to put this symbol on keyboards in other countries that have never seen or used the symbol before. As a result, there is really no official name for this symbol.
The actual origin of the @ symbol remains an enigma.
History tells us that the @ symbol stemmed from the tired hands of the medieval monks. During the Middle Ages before the invention of printing presses, every letter of a word had to be painstakingly transcribed by hand for each copy of a published book. The monks that performed these long, tedious copying duties looked for ways to reduce the number of individual strokes per word for common words. Although the word "at" is quite short to begin with, it was a common enough word in texts and documents that medieval monks thought it would be quicker and easier to shorten the word "at" even more. As a result, the monks looped the "t" around the "a" and created it into a circle-eliminating two strokes of the pen.
Another story tells the @ symbol was used as an abbreviation for the word amphora. Amphora was the unit of measurement that determined the amount held by the large terra cotta jars that were used to ship grain, spices and wine. Giorgio Stabile, an Italian scholar, discovered the @ symbol in a letter written in 1536 by a Florentine trader named Francesco Lapi. It seems likely that some industrious trader saw the @ symbol in a book transcribed by monks using the symbol and appropriated it for use as the amphora abbreviation. This would also explain why it became common to use the symbol in relation to quantities of something.

Who's Who
Santa employs thousands of elves around the world. But right here at ground zero of Operation Merry Christmas, there are a few elves we feel you need to know about -- especially if you will be reading the Updates here on our blog. After all, Santa is not the only person who is working hard for a Merry Christmas!
There are elves who wrap, elves that track the weather, and elves who pack the sleigh. There are mailroom elves, food elves, decorating elves -- even singing elves. There are so many elves we can't begin to explain them all. So here are some of the biggest names of the little guys who help The Big Guy make it all so merry:
Public Relations
Elf Ernest
He gets almost as much mail as Santa -- and he's just the guy for the job! If there's anything you want to know about Christmas, Santa, the North Pole, reindeer, Operation Merry Christmas or anything having to do with the season, Ernest is your man.
Columnist for The North Pole Gazette and Infamous Christmas Curmudgeon
Elf Ed Zachary
Probably the most plain-spoken elf you'd ever want to meet, Elf Ed Zachary writes for adults and others dubious of Santa Claus and his cause. Beware, dear reader. Elf Ed is a straight shooter -- and he doesn't mince his words.
Postmaster General, North Pole Post Office
Elf Hugo
Santa's got mail -- tons of it! All year long Elf Hugo Slavia takes in letters, emails, and packages at the North Pole Post Office.
Serving Santa's Stables
Elf Victor
Santa doesn't just employ eight tiny reindeer -- he's got thousands! And the huge facility called Santa's Stables here at the North Pole is run by Elf Victor. Not only does he care for the reindeer, but he organizes the annual reindeer games -- and with Santa he hand selects the chosen few honored to serve Santa each year.
Santa's Workshop
Elf Bernard
Santa's workshop is a place just about any kid would want to visit. It is run by Elf Bernard -- a very old, wise and plain spoken elf who understands the pressure of the season like no other person in the world. Charged with producing Operation Merry Christmas, Elf Bernard has been known to use any resource at his disposal -- including Tooth Fairies -- to make it happen.
The Wrapping Department
Elf Wally
The wrapping department has a complex assignment -- take every Santa surprise and make it look merry. And it's a job every elf in the wrapping department takes very seriously. This merry bunch is lead by Elf Wally -- a frenzied, high-energy and worried sort who always finds a way to get the job done before Santa takes flight.
Commissioner of Traditions
Elf Gloria
She may be the oldest elf at the North Pole -- some say, she may be almost as old as Santa himself. She may move slow and be a little hard of hearing, but she has a heart of pure gold. She is a Christmas purist -- and nothing happens at the North Pole in any department without her say-so. She makes sure the colors are right, that the bells ring true and that the spirit of the traditions of Christmas are preserved.
Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!
Elf Billy
Elf Billy and his team of elf-geeks sit around their computers and watch the weather around the world. They are responsible for tracking Santa on Christmas Eve and for helping to make his flight plans each year. They have a huge, impossible job that constantly changes.
Turn Your Head and Cough!
Elf Lionel
Elf Dr. Lionel P. Spock has one mission every year: keep everyone well and free from the dreaded Bah-Hum Bug Bug -- an ugly virus known to sap holiday cheer. He's the medical expert here -- and he's saved the day many, many times.

Chinese approach to the Natal Demon
Attracting the Attention Of the Bull
Picture #1 of 10
The Self attempts to exercise the powers of right thought and right action. It is confronted with the difficulty of attracting the attention of the personality from the objects of external desire. The bull is roving about the field, that is, the appetites and instincts are giving free expression to material inclination. The self holds out a green branch, a symbol of life and hope, but the bull pays little attention. The promise of abstract spiritual attainment is not sufficient to entice the bull from its sphere of irresponsible action. The dark clouds cover the sun; the light of reason is obscured. The bull is black to represent ignorance and negation. This picture summarizes the Oriental belief that the instincts and appetites will not come under voluntary control, but must be captured or held by the practice of the philosophic disciplines.

Williams Peace Plan
Robin Williams Plan for Peace
Leave it to Robin Williams to come up with the perfect plan... what we need now is for our UN Ambassador to stand up and repeat this message.
Robin Williams' plan... (Hard to argue with this logic!)
"I see a lot of people yelling for peace but I have not heard of a plan for peace.
So, here's one plan:
1. The US will apologize to the world for our "interference" in their affairs, past & present. You know, Hitler, Mussolini, Tojo, Noriega, Milosovich and the rest of those 'good ole boys.' We will never "interfere" again.
2. We will withdraw our troops from all over the world, starting with Germany, South Korea and the Philippines. They don't want us there. We would station our troops at all US borders. No more will anyone sneak through holes in the fence.
3. All illegal aliens have 90 days to get their affairs together and leave. We'll give them a free trip home. After 90 days the remainder will be gathered up and deported to France immediately, regardless of who or where they are. France should welcome them.
4. All future visitors will be thoroughly checked and limited to 90 days unless given a special permit. No one from a terrorist nation would be allowed in. If you don't like it there, change it yourself and don't hide here. Asylum would never be available to anyone. We don't need any more cab drivers or 7-11 cashiers who won't speak English.
5. No "students" over age 21. The older ones are the bombers. If they don't attend classes, or they get a "D" and it's back home baby!.Never to Return.
6. The US will make a strong effort to become self-sufficient energy wise. This will include developing non-polluting sources of energy but will require a temporary drilling of oil in the Alaskan wilderness. The caribou will have to cope for a while.
7. Offer Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries $10 a barrel for their oil. If they don't like it, we go some place else. They can go somewhere else to sell their production. (About a week of the wells filling up their storage sites would be enough.)
8. If there is a famine or other natural catastrophe in the world, we will not "interfere." They can pray to Allah or whomever, for seeds, rain, cement or whatever they need. Besides most of what we give them is stolen or given to the army. The people who need it most get very little, if anything.
9. Ship the UN Headquarters to an isolated island some place.! We don't need the spies and fair weather friends here. Besides, the building would make a good homeless shelter or lockup for illegal aliens.
10. All Americans must go to charm and beauty school. That way, no one can call us "Ugly Americans" any longer.
Now, ain't that a winner of a plan."The Statue of Liberty is no longer saying 'Give me your poor, your tired, your huddled masses
' She's got a baseball bat and she's yelling, 'You want a piece of me?"
I ran across this over a year ago and it still seems fitting today, what do you think ?

President Roosevelt calling December 7, "a date which will live in infamy..."
Job cut plans accelerate
Hit by rising health care and energy costs, employers announced more than 100,000 job cuts in November, capping the first three-month stretch above that level since early 2002, an outplacement firm said Tuesday. Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc. said companies announced 104,530 job cuts in November, up 5.1 percent from a year earlier and 2.6 percent from October.
The September through November totals mark the first time that announced job cuts have topped 100,000 for three or more straight months since January to April of 2002, the firm said. U.S. employers have announced 930,690 job cuts this year.
But if December cuts reach 69,310, it will mark the fourth straight year with 1 million cuts announced by U. S. employers, Challenger added. Challenger said the economy's biggest worry is that a "large number of lower-middle class and middle-class Americans struggling to make it paycheck-to-paycheck will be short of discretionary income during the holiday shopping season." In addition to job cuts, the pace of job creation has been sluggish during the current expansion. The number of jobs created since the last recession ended in November 2001 has been the slowest of any economic recovery in the United States since World War II.
"We've fallen far short of prior economic expansions," said JPMorgan Fleming's Chan. "We're about 5-1/2 million (jobs) short of where would be today if this were a typical expansion."
IBM To Sell Out To China
International Business Machines Corp. has put its personal computing business up for sale in a deal that could be worth as much as $2 billion. Lenovo Group Ltd., China's top PC manufacturer, and at least one other company are said to be in talks with IBM. In its first disclosure that a deal may be imminent, Lenovo said it was in acquisition talks with a major technology company, without identifying the firm. The move to dispose of its PC business, which IBM started two and a half decades ago, is part of a long-standing effort by IBM to reduce its exposure to the market. It already relies on contract manufacturing partners, including a joint venture with China's Great Wall Technology, to produce all of its PCs. The deal would propel Lenovo from eighth place among PC manufacturers to the No. 3 position, combining its own 2.2 percent share with the 5.5 percent held by IBM. IBM's PC business employs roughly 10,000 people, including about 2,300 in the United States -- mostly product designers, marketers and sales specialists -- and some 7,700 overseas, a company spokesman said.
The latter includes more than 4,000 manufacturing workers in China employed by IBM's joint venture with Great Wall Technology in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen. Most IBM ThinkPads are built through this joint venture.
Well I guess that would mean all 10,000 jobs are lost to China !!

House To House Search
I watch and read the news everyday on the fighting in Fallujah, not realizing the true extent of what our troops are up against until I ran across this ariel map of Fallujah taken last November. Dialup users beware this is a 12Mb file but very well worth a close look at the true meaning of house to house search. After seeing this map indeed a few extra prayers will be said tonight for our troops stationed there.

Firewall Safety
Off to the right I posted a new article, Understanding Your Firewall, a firewall is a piece of hardware or software that stops would-be idiots from hijacking your computer, special note for cable and satallite users, the DNS range is more widely know than for dialup accounts. I have Charter Cable so I expect a few more idiots to scan for open ports over a dialup account as cable companies use a specific DNS range (DNS=your computer's address and location). Windows XP has a built-in firewall so make sure it is turned on. Other operating systems need to have a firewall added in. If you don't think you need a firewall and that nobody is interested in you, think again, these jerks scan entire ranges of DNS's looking for an open door. I posted the article and am doing so here to let you know how important it is. To show my point I was going to add my BlackIce (Firewall software) log here but realized it is three pages long just for the last 24 hours. A total of 186 idiots out there just scanning the internet for somebody to have the door open. Just when you thought email was the only way to get hacked...those 186 idiots may have found your door open !
If you need help turning on your firewall or need one, give me a buzz.

A vulnerability exists which can be exploited by malicious people to trick users into downloading malicious files. The vulnerability is caused due to Internet Explorer using the file extension from the URL's filename when saving images with the 'Save Picture As' command and also strips the last file extension if multiple file extensions exist. This can be exploited by a malicious web site to cause a valid image with malicious, embedded script code to be saved with an arbitrary file extension.

The Box
Thinking Outside The Box
Thinking Outside the Box means thinking beyond the parameters of human consciousness and experience - to see beyond the norm - to be a visionary - to activate your DNA. We exist inside the box - the physical plane - but we soon evolve our conscious awareness back to its source of creation - outside the box.
Imagine your experience in third dimension as a puzzle box.
The spheres, rods, grids, holding it in place.
When you think outside the box, the box goes away.
[Note; 3x3=9=closures, endings]
Physical reality is the Tree of Life.
Tree=wood
Geometric shapes - Platonic Solids -
create physical forms that keeps you inside the box.
When you awaken - you move your consciousness 'outside the box'.
Pinocchio was a wooden puppet who became a physical boy.
He was guided by the 'Blue Fairy' (Blue=blueprint of our reality)
In many meditations I have seen humanity as puppets on strings.
To prove himself, he entered the water
(collective unconscious - creation)
and saved his creator, Geppetto.
Are you trapped inside the box?
Can you think 'outside of the box'?
It means leaving behind frustration, anger, stress, and fear.
Can you be creative?
Can you manifest in a reality of infinite possibilities?
Relax. Close your eyes.
See yourself 'in the box'.
Now visualize yourself
or remote view yourself moving
'outside of the box'.
What do you see?
If reality is a 'box'
created by electromagnetic energy grids
how does one use the hidden key to unlock the door
to become free of the pull of the grid of emotions and
able to think 'out of the box' and into higher awareness?
Metaphors: The Ark of the Covenant
is a box which holds a source of creational light energy
that works as a generator or battery in our reality.
Creation takes place outside of the box.
How does one move 'out of the box' to find the true
source of the power or light that forms our reality? The box is also a vessel. Your physical form is often referred to as a vessel at the heart of which is your soul spark of light. When you move your consciousness 'out of the box'
you move out of your physical form.
We also have Jack in the BoX
who is the Clown, Trickster, Joker
who is linked to the elements of surprise
music, geometry and The Game of 3D.
When you think 'out of the box'
you can think beyond his Game.
The Sepher Yetsira (Sefer Yetzirah): Cube of Space
Does the box have many layers and dimensions?
Is(?) Humanity evolving out of the box and into the light of creation.

Grinch
MONTE SERENO, California (AP) -- For six years, Alan and Bonnie Aerts transformed their Silicon Valley home into a Christmas wonderland, complete with surfing Santa, jumbo candy canes and a carol-singing chorus of mannequins.
Visitors loved it.
Last year, after NBC's "Weekend Today" featured the $150,000 display of custom-designed props, more than 1,500 cars prowled the Aertses' cul-de-sac in this upscale San Jose suburb each night.
This year, though, the merry menagerie stayed indoors. Instead, on the manicured lawn outside the couple's Tudor mansion stands a single tiding: a 10-foot-tall Grinch with green fuzz, rotting teeth, and beet-red eyeballs.
The Aertses erected the smirking giant to protest the couple across the street -- 16-year residents Le and Susan Nguyen, who initiated complaints to city officials that the display was turning the quiet neighborhood into a Disneyesque nightmare.
Alan Aerts, who makes sure the Grinch's spindly finger points directly to the Nguyens' house, says the complaints killed the exhibit. They also violated the Christmas spirit, he said.
"When I grew up, people decorated everything -- it was wonderful to be a kid," said the 48-year-old soft drink distributor and philanthropist. "If you can't even put up a display these days, what kind of people have we become?"
The Nguyens say that even after the Aertses hired a security guard to help direct traffic, the commotion kept them from having friends over for their own lower-key celebrations.
"We wake up to Christmas for about 45 days of the year," said Le Nguyen, 55. "You ever seen the movie 'Groundhog Day?' It's just like that."
The exhibition's death knell came last year, when the Nguyens collected 90 signatures of protest from residents, and the city council voted to require a permit for any exhibit lasting longer than three days.
Mayor Erin Garner voted against it, saying he thought the Aertses provided a community service.
"It will be a crying shame if (Alan) doesn't put his holiday lights up this year," he told the San Jose Mercury News.
After studying the application process, the Aertses decided the usual display wasn't worth the hassle.
So Alan Aerts, a 6-foot-5 amateur body builder, commissioned the $2,500 motorized Grinch statue, which waves its arms and emits steam as a raspy tenor belts out, "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch."
Susan Nguyen, 52, is unmoved.
"It was oppressive," she said. "Maybe not if you just spent 10 minutes admiring it from your car, but if you lived next door, it was definitely oppressive."
Ahhhh, the true meaning of Christmas displayed by these folks.......

Nigerian Loan Scams - 419 Scam
Nigerian, or "419", scams are one of the most common types of fraudulent email currently hitting inboxes. The scam messages can also arrive via fax or letter. The messages generally claim that your help is needed to access a large sum of money, usually many millions of dollars. In fact, this money does not exist. The messages are an opening gambit designed to draw potential victims deeper into the scam. Those who initiate a dialogue with the scammers by replying to the scam messages will eventually be asked for advance fees supposedly required to allow the deal to proceed. They may also become the victims of identity theft.

ETIQUETTE TIPS
After tasting the turkey never ask,"Is this Cosco?"
There is an old saying that fish and visitors stink after 3 days. We at Comedyzine also have a saying. Never tell any of your fellow guests that they smell like fish.
If the turkey is too dry, it is okay to spit on your turkey however refrain from spitting on your neighbor's turkey.
Do not blow your nose on the tablecloth. You may use the tablecloth as a napkin by tucking it into your pants. It is important to remove the tablecloth from your pants when leaving the table.
Keys, purses and briefcases should be kept off the dinner table at all times. Same goes for cats, ant farms, used hyperdermic needles, anything furry and moving and missing digits from deceased family members.
Refrain from speaking with your mouth full. If you must speak, spit your food out on the carpet and then say whatever is on your mind.
Remember to keep your elbows off the table and to sit up straight. If you have doubts about where your hands belong then just put them in your lap.
If you find a hair in your soup, eat around it. Same goes for a toupee.
If you have a food particle trapped in your teeth, do not pick at it with your fork. You could put a hole in your cheek. The unsightly hole and the huge amount of blood loss will not only be embarrassing, it will also make it more difficult to enjoy your meal. Also a knife works better.
Feel free to smoke at the dinner table. If you need an ashtray just use the glass of the person sitting next to you. Preferably when he/she is looking the other way.
If you need to take medication while at the table, no explanations are necessary. However if you require a blood transfusion during dinner, it is appropriate to let the host/hostess know beforehand.
Always pass the food to your right. Even if there is no one on your right and in doing so you would be dropping food on the floor. Remember, etiquette first.
It is impolite to salt your food before tasting it. It is also considered impolite to regurgitate your food after tasting it.
Never juggle your cutlery.
If you happen to pass gas at the table, always blame the dog. If they have no dog then blame the person next to you. Never blame the goldfish.
Only AFTER dinner is it appropriate for you to do your 'pull the tablecloth without disturbing any of the dishes' trick. Remember even if the trick fails, a broken dish is one less dish to wash.
It is rude to salt and pepper your food before tasting it. It is really rude to salt and pepper the food of the person next to you, unless of course you tasted it first.
Never ask the hostess for ketchup.
Refrain from the ventriloquist act yelling "ouch" as if it came from the turkey as it is carved.
Don't use the chainsaw to carve the turkey.

Thanksgiving Post Day 1
The pilgrims started Thanksgiving Day by breaking thanksgiving bread with the Indians. Today many Americans enjoy Thanksgiving Day gambling in Indian Casinos losing all their bread.
President Truman started the tradition of the President of the United States pardoning the White House turkey as a gesture of goodwill. Starting with President Clinton after he pardons the turkey, Republicans call for the Attorney General to appoint an independent counsel to investigate why he pardoned the turkey.
When Thanksgivings Day began it was a time when people shared their food with Indians. Today we pay disrespect to Indians by naming football teams such as the Redskins after their ethnicity and watching Cowboys.
Originally the Pilgrims had thanksgiving as a day of prayer. Today American still consider it a day of prayer as they pray for their favorite football team to win.
Thanksgiving started as the season to give thanks for our union with our families. Today we give thanks not just for our families but for our stepfather's families and our stepmother's families. We celebrate our dysfunctional families as a truly American phenomenon.

Donate Your Computer Idle Time
Does your computer run idle during the day? If you answered yes to either question, I have a proposal for you... A number of years back Berkeley started a program call SETI@Home, SETI@home is a scientific experiment that uses Internet-connected computers in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). You download their free software and while your computer just sits idle it downloads and analyzes radio telescope data looking for communications from a far away civilization. I have ran it for a long time now and it uses almost zero computer resources. By utilizing millions of home computers it helps solve the problem of sorting through mountains of data. A very worthy project considering the stories you could tell if "your" computer found that telltale signal. Which brings me to point out a new launch project structured after the SETI@Home efforts called; World Community Grid - A very worthy project to get involved with... -Human Proteome Folding Project- Very worthy projects that you can help out with by donating your computer downtime, to learn more about either of these two projects just left click on the blue highlighted words in this message. Your Great Great Grandchildren reading their text book in school that's says "thier" Great Great Grandparents Computer found the cure !!!
Do you let your computer run all the time?
Based on the same structure you download their software and while your computer is idle it analyzes their mountains of data.
World Community Grid is focusing on a project key to advancing our knowledge of human disease. By identifying the proteins that make up the Human Proteome, scientists can build the understanding needed for novel and effective treatments for diseases like cancer, HIV/AIDS, SARS, and malaria. Here again using millions of home PC's to sort through all that data.

Dog & Leopard
The Dog and The Leopard
========================
A wealthy man decided to go on a safari in Africa. He took his
faithful pet dog along for company. One day the dog starts
chasing butterflies and before long he discovers that he is
lost. So, wandering about he notices a leopard heading rapidly
in his direction with the obvious intention of having lunch.
The dog thinks, "Boy, I'm in deep doo doo now."
Then he noticed some bones on the ground close by, and
immediately settles down to chew on the bones with his back to
the approaching cat.
Just as the leopard is about to leap, the dog exclaims loudly,
"Man, that was one delicious leopard. I wonder if there are any
more around here?" Hearing this the leopard halts his attack in
mid stride, as a look of terror comes over him, and slinks away
into the trees.
"Whew," says the leopard, "That was close.
That dog nearly had me."
Meanwhile, a monkey who had been watching the whole scene from a
nearby tree, figures he can put this knowledge to good use and
trade it for protection from the leopard.
So, off he goes. But the dog saw him heading after the leopard
with great speed, and figured that something must be up. The
monkey soon catches up with the leopard, spills the beans and
strikes a deal for himself with the leopard.
The leopard is furious at being made a fool of and says,
"Here monkey, hop on my back and see what's going to happen to
that conniving canine."
Now the dog sees the leopard coming with the monkey on his back,
and thinks, "What am I going to do now?"
But instead of running, the dog sits down with his back to his
attackers pretending he hasn't seen them yet.
Just when they get close enough to hear, the dog says,
"Where's that monkey. I just can never trust him.
I sent him off half an hour ago to bring me another leopard,
and he's still not back!!"
Credit Card Scam
Credit Card Scam. By understanding how the scam works, you'll
Be better prepared to protect yourself. Thanks to Dr. Pat Cloney
for passing this on. These con artists get more creative every day.
My husband was called on Wednesday from "VISA", and I was called on
Thursday from "MasterCard". The scam works like this:
Person calling says, "this is
Security and Fraud Department at VISA. My Badge number is
12460. Your card has been flagged for an unusual purchase
pattern, and I'm calling to verify. This would be on your VISA
card which was issued by
Anti-Telemarketing Device for $497.99 from a marketing
company based in Arizona?"
When you say "No", the caller continues with, "Then we will
be issuing a credit to your account. This is a company we have
been watching and the charges range from $297 to $497, just
under the $500 purchase pattern that flags most cards. Before
your next statement, the credit will be sent to (gives you your
address), is that correct?"
You say "yes". The caller continues... "I will be starting a
Fraud investigation. If you have any questions, you should
call the 1-800 number listed on the back of your card (1-800-VISA)
and ask for Security. You will need to refer to this Control #"
The caller then gives you a 6 digit number. "Do you need me to
read it again?"
Here's the IMPORTANT part on how the scam works. The caller then says,
"he needs to verify you are in possession of your card".
He'll ask you to "turn your card over and look for some numbers.
There are 7 numbers; the first 4 are your card number, the next 3
are the 'Security Numbers' that verify you are in possession of the
card. These are the numbers you use to make Internet purchases
to prove you have the card. Read me the 3 numbers". After you
tell the caller the 3 numbers, he'll say ,"That is correct. I just
needed to verify that the card has not been lost or stolen, and that
you still have your card. Do you have any other questions?"
After you say No, the caller then Thanks you and states, "Don't
hesitate to call back if you do", and hangs up.
You actually say very little, and they never ask for or tell you the
card number. But after we were called on Wednesday, we called
back within 20 minutes to ask a question. Are we glad we did! The REAL
VISA Security Department told us it was a scam and in the last 15
minutes a new purchase of $497.99 was charge on on our card.
Long story made short, we made a real fraud report and closed
the VISA card, and they are reissuing us a new number. What the
scammers wants is the 3-digit PIN number on the back of the card.
Don't give it to them. Instead, tell them you'll call VISA or Master
card direct. The real VISA told us that they will never ask for
anything on the card as they already know the information since
they issued the card! If you give the scammers your 3 Digit PIN
Number, you think you're receiving a credit. However, by the time
you get your statement, you'll see charges for purchases you didn't
make, and by then it's almost to late and/or harder to actually file
a fraud report.
What makes this more remarkable is that on Thursday, I got a call from
a "Jason Richardson of MasterCard" with a word-for-word repeat of the
VISA scam. This time I didn't let him finish. I hung up!
We filed a police report, as instructed by VISA. The police said they
are taking several of these reports daily! They also urged us to tell
everybody we know that this scam is happening.
Please pass this on to all your friends. By informing each other, we
protect each other. Thank-You.

Mydoom
Reprinted From: Computerworld NOV 15, 2004
The latest version of the Mydoom virus suggests to security experts that a much-anticipated "zero day" attack may have already arrived.
"Zero day" refers to an exploit, either a worm or a virus, that arrives on the heels of, or even before, the public announcement of a vulnerability in a computer system. This week's version of Mydoom appeared only two days after a security flaw in Windows Internet Explorer was made public by two hackers, according to reports.
What's different about this version of the virus is that instead of attaching itself to an e-mail as an executable program, it appears instead as a Web link within the text of an e-mail message. Clicking on the link will direct a person's browser to another Web site that will exploit an IFrames vulnerability in Internet Explorer and thereby infect that person's machine.
"Up until today, every worm that came out had a fix and that fix was out there for some time," said Stuart McClure, president and chief technology officer of Foundstone Strategic Security in Mission Viejo, Calif.
McClure suggests that it will be only a short time before a worm or virus appears exploiting an unknown vulnerability with no mechanism to fix it. The time difference between when security vulnerabilities become known and exploits are created to take advantage of those flaws has been shrinking for some time. Two years ago, that time difference was somewhere between four and six weeks.
"For the first six months of this year, [that difference] was about 5.8 business days, and in this most recent case, it was just two days," said Alfred Huger, senior director of engineering at Symantec Corp. in Calgary, Alberta. "The problem is that it is extremely difficult for a vendor to put out a patch in that short of a time."
Carol Terentiak, security strategy and response manager at Microsoft Canada Co. in Mississauga, Ontario, said this version of Mydoom suggests that virus and worm writers are becoming more sophisticated and going beyond merely tweaking existing virus code. They are doing more sophisticated work by first prying apart and looking for problems in the systems they may want to compromise, she said.
There was some suggestion that the release of the virus was timed to disrupt Microsoft's monthly security bulletin. Each month, Microsoft releases a security bulletin that provides customers with information about security issues, exploits and fixes that are available. The timing of this Mydoom variant indicated to some that its author may have hoped to trip up the bulletin by showing it to be inadequate in providing up-to-date security information and fixes to Microsoft customers.
Terentiak said Microsoft users who have installed Service Pack 2 for Windows XP are already at a reduced risk of having problems with this virus. Service Pack 2 comes with built-in protections against the kinds of exploits that Mydoom tries to perpetrate. Still, Microsoft is working on a separate patch for the vulnerability in Internet Explorer.
Terentiak advised people who are concerned to check online at either www.microsoft.com/security or www.microsoft.com/protect for more information.

Hoax
I thank Bette Owens for being alert, it is "ALWAYS WISE" to never open or pass on emails from people you don't know. There are even trojans and worms that execute themselves even if you never open the email, that is why I recommend to always keep your virus information up to date. However, left click here, this perticular virus is one of hundreds of hoaxes floating around the internet. My mother once emailed me about an email she received from my sister telling the computer owner to search for a file and if found on their computer to delete that file as it was a virus, well, thousands of people just deleted this file only to find that Windoz would not operate again as that file was a main bootup for the Windoz Operating system. Victims of of a sick hoax. For more information on Virus' and computer vulnerabilities please visit this page on my website by left clicking here. There is a button labled HOAXES and will take you to a Symantec site dedicated to this subject. Not to push you onto my site but "ALL" the lastest virus and vulnerability information is posted there in real time, 24/7. So visit it daily and for complete marine and aviation weather plus other travel information in real time visit her sister site http://oregon.4mg.com.
THANK YOU AGAIN BETTE....it is always wise to be cautious.

A little boy was selling newspapers on the corner. The people were in and out of the cold. The little boy was so cold that he wasn't trying to sell many papers. He walked up to a policeman and said, "Mister, you wouldn't happen to know where a poor boy could find a warm place to sleep tonight would you? You see, I sleep in a box up around the corner there and down the alley and it's awful cold in there for tonight. Sure would be nice to have a warm place to stay." The policeman looked down at the little boy and said, "you go down the street to that big white house and you knock on the door. When they come out the door you just say John 3:16, and they will let you in." So he did. He walked up the steps and knocked on the door, and a lady answered. He looked up and said, "John 3:16." The lady said, "Come on in and sat in front of a great big old fireplace, and she went off. The boy sat there for a while and thought to himself: John 3:16. I don't understand it, but it sure makes a cold boy warm.
Later she came back and asked him "Are you hungry?" He said, "Well, just a little. I haven't eaten in a couple of days, and I guess I could stand a little bit of food," The lady took him in the kitchen she sat him down in a split bottom rocker in front of a great big old fireplace, and she went off. The boy sat there for a while and thought to himself: John 3:16. I don't understand it, but it sure makes a cold boy warm. The lady took him in the kitchen and sat him down to a table full of wonderful food. He ate and ate until he couldn't eat any more. Then he thought to himself: John 3:16...Boy, I sure don't understand it but it sure makes a hungry boy full.
She took him upstairs to a bathroom to a huge bathtub filled with warm water, and he sat there and soaked for a while. As he soaked, he thought to himself: John 3:16... I sure don't understand it, but it sure makes a dirty clean. You know, I've not had a bath, a real bath, in my whole life. The only bath I ever had was when I stood in front of that big old fire hydrant as they flushed it out.
The lady came in and got him. She took him to a room, tucked him into a big old feather bed, pulled the covers up around his neck, kissed him goodnight and turned out the lights. As he lay in the darkness and looked out the window at the snow coming down on that cold night, he thought to himself: John 3:16. I don't understand it but it sure makes a tired boy rested.
The next morning the lady came back up and took him down again to that same big table full of food. After he ate, she took him back to that same big old split bottom rocker in front of the fireplace and picked up a big old Bible. She sat down in front of him and looked into his young face. "Do you understand John 3:16?" she asked gently. He replied, "No, Ma'am, I don't. The first time I ever heard it was last night when the policeman told me to use it," She opened the Bible to John 3:16 and began to explain to him about Jesus. Right there, in front of that big old fireplace, he gave his heart and life to Jesus. He sat there and thought: John 3:16 I don't understand it, but it sure makes a lost boy feel safe.
You know, I have to confess I don't understand it either, how God was willing to send His Son to die for me, and how Jesus would agree to do such a thing. I don't understand the agony of the Father and every angel in heaven as they watched Jesus suffer and die. I don't understand the intense love for ME that kept Jesus on the cross till the end. I don't understand it, but it sure does make life worth living.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

I was getting my mail on Saturday and got to talking with Cleda Hampton and Ann Hankins about all the junk mail we get. We starting sharing information about privacy protection and shredding anything with your name on it, we all learned something from each other. Cleda suggested I post what we learned on the LVH Web Page so other people can be more watchful. We need to make it as hard as possible for people to steal our identity:
SHRED THE FOLLOWING:
· Anything with your name and address appearing.
· Pay special attention to the bar code under your name on envelopes. You would be surprised what information that contains and a bar code reader cost less than $100.
· Catalogs – don’t just pull off the back page where you name appears, but look on the order form, you will see your name and address also listed.
· All applications for credit cards: again lots of information imbedded in the bar code.
· Bank and credit card statements
· Cancelled checks
Spyware and You
Although unlike some of the repair people interviewed for this article the Percentage of my calls has not reached the porportion that theirs has, a majority of the calls I get eventually boil down to spyware. I recommend that you have at least two spyware (adware) detection and removal softwares installed on your computer. Run these programs faithfully at least once a week. Through the year is does add up to consume your valuable time but, as vendors get cleverer or should I say greedier the home and business computer owner is put at more and more at risk. On my website in the "Links and Free Stuff" area I have two of the better Spyware removal softwares listed, Ad-Aware 6 and Spybot Search & Destroy, these are both free programs, just remember before you run the software, as with anti-virus, always update the definitions. Also browse around the page as there is a niffty Pop-Up stopper there along with some free Firewall softwares amongst other stuff. Even some links to other Free software sites. But remember, at these other sites some of the free stuff "they" offer may contain spyware. Always check what you installing, use manual install instead of automatic if you feel comfortable doing so, even so, using manual does not gaurentee the program will do what you tell it to do, as an example I installed Yahoo Instant Messenger just the other day as I needed it for a one time use. I told it three times not to install Yahoo mail but, in the end, there it was. Another ten minutes to un-installed the stuff I did not want. Maybe next post I'll talk about ToolBars...those things from hell. Any questions you have feel free to post here as others may have the same question or email me at mailto:fx1@(remove)bulleri.net , or a quick call at 265-3429. Note; take out the remove part in the email, this is put there as there are those wonderful people that run software scanning the internet harvesting email address so they can spam us.

PET ADOPTION CENTER
Ron added a new link to this page for those of you who might be looking to adopt a pet. This link will take you to Pet finders. Fill out your preference of animal, type, size age and zip code click on local shelter and you get a listing of shelter close to where you live.
This will show the local shelters and the animals available with pictures. You can fine-tune your search to be as limited or as broad as you prefer. One of my favorites is the Senior Dog Rescue in Philomath. They foster all of their animals in private homes and are very selective as to the family the dogs are adopted into. If you find an animal you have an interest in there will be an e-mail address on the bottom of the page with the description and picture of the animal where you can respond to get additional data.

So he turns on his lights and pulls the driver over. Approaching the car, he notices that there are five old ladies - two in the front seat and three in the back - wide eyed and white as ghosts.
The driver, obviously confused, says to him, "Officer, I don't understand, I was doing exactly the speed limit! What seems to be the problem?" "Ma'am," the officer replies, "You weren't speeding, but you should know that driving slower than the speed limit can also be a danger to other drivers." "Slower than the speed limit? No sir, I was doing the speed limit exactly... Twenty-Two miles an hour!" the old woman says a bit proudly. The State Police officer, trying to contain a chuckle, explains to her that "22" was the route number, not the speed limit.
A bit embarassed, the woman grinned and thanked the officer for pointing out her error.
"But before I let you go, Ma'am, I have to ask... Is everyone in this car ok? These women seem awfully shaken and they haven't muttered a single peep this whole time." the officer asks.
"Oh, they'll be alright in a minute, officer. We just got off Route 119."

I guess Maxine will take over for Martha...at least for a little while. :-) Go Maxine!!
Martha's Way Stuff a miniature marshmallow in the bottom of a sugar cone to prevent ice cream drips.
Maxine's Way Just suck the ice cream out of the bottom of the cone, for Pete's sake! You are probably lying on the couch with your feet up eating it, anyway!

A short essay on the golden rule
The golden rule is endorsed by all the great world religions; Jesus, Hillel, and Confucius used it to summarize their ethical teachings. And for many centuries the idea has been influential among people of very diverse cultures. These facts suggest that the golden rule may be an important moral truth.
The golden rule is best interpreted as saying: "Treat others only in ways that you're willing to be treated in the same exact situation." To apply it, you'd imagine yourself in the exact place of the other person on the receiving end of the action. If you act in a given way toward another, and yet are unwilling to be treated that way in the same circumstances, then you violate the rule.
To apply the golden rule adequately, we need knowledge and imagination. We need to know what effect our actions have on the lives of others. And we need to be able to imagine ourselves, vividly and accurately, in the other person's place on the receiving end of the action. With knowledge, imagination, and the golden rule, we can progress far in our moral thinking.
The golden rule is best seen as a consistency principle. It doesn't replace regular moral norms. It isn't an infallible guide on which actions are right or wrong; it doesn't give all the answers. It only prescribes consistency - that we not have our actions (toward another) be out of harmony with our desires (toward a reversed situation action). It tests our moral coherence. If we violate the golden rule, then we're violating the spirit of fairness and concern that lie at the heart of morality.
The golden rule, with roots in a wide range of world cultures, is well suited to be a standard to which different cultures could appeal in resolving conflicts. As the world becomes more and more a single interacting global community, the need for such a common standard is becoming more urgent.
All I really need to know about how to live and what to do and how to be I learned in Kindergarten.Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate-school mountain, but there in the sandpile at Sunday School.
These are the things I learned:
Share everything.Play fair.Don't hit people.Put things back where you found them.Clean up your own mess.Don't take things that aren't yours.Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.Wash your hands before you eat.Flush.Warm cookies and milk are good for you. Live a balanced life -learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.Take a nap every afternoon. When you go out into the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands, and stick together.Be aware of wonder.Remember the little seed in the styrofoam cup:the roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why,but we are all like that.Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the styrofoam cup-they all die. So do we.And then rememberthe Dick-and-Jane books and the first word you learned -the biggest word of all -LOOK. Everything you need to know is in there somewhere. The Golden Rule and love and basic sanitation. Ecology and politics and equality and sane living.
Take any one of those items and extrapolate it into sophisticated adult terms and apply it to your family life or your work or your government or your world and it holds true and clear and firm.Think what a better world it would be if we all - the whole world -had cookies and milk about three o'clock every afternoon and then lay down with our blankies for a nap. Or if all governments had as a basic policy to always put things back where they found them and to clean up their own mess. And it is still true, no matter how old you are -when you go out into the world, it is best to hold hands and stick together.(from the book by Robert Fulghum)
